I will have to look into this. I would like to get a stump grinder as well.

This saw was cutting the trees flush with the ground. May not need a stump grinder.

Hey all. I hope all is well. Here is my situation. About 3 times/year we head 2.5 hours from here to spend some time near the water. I have a 21 foot boat but want to able to bring the kid's dirtbikes and the Honda Pioneer with as well.

In my state you are allowed to do double towing. You can do double towing from a gooseneck trailer and from a bumper pull.

Option 1- I have the ability to purchase a 16' gooseneck trailer. I would need to do some modifications though....first, a gooseneck ball on my truck (crew max, not even sure this is possible) and then weld a hitch to the back so I can hook up my boat. I imagine I will pushing the 10,200 lbs mark. Boat is roughly 4000 lbs. and I am guessing I will be close to that on the gooseneck with the UTV and bikes. Still in my range.

Option 2: Purchase car trailer (with brakes) and weld a hitch onto that. I believe my first trailer won't push the 4000 lbs mark though so I might have 3000 behind me and then the boat at 4000. I wouldn't need to do modifications either.

Option 3: Get a longer car trailer and have the UTV back the boat up onto the trailer, then add the bikes. Securing a boat on a flatbed sounds like a nightmare but it might be the best option. More safe? Not double towing either.

I am not interested in getting a camper that is a toy hauler. Plus that is a much bigger expense. Wife's ride would maybe pull the dirt bikes but not the bikes and UTV together.

I don't plan on racing down the road 75 miles per hour. I wouldn't push it at all given that we only would do this maybe 3 times per year. I could easily set my cruise at 50 and just take my time.

Anyone with some experience on this who could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it.

We need pictures of all these toys before we can do that math. Also post your door sticker. You will run out of cargo capacity first.

That is a lot of toys...

Another consideration for option 3 is your UTV. Is it really able to push the 4000 lb boat trailer onto a car trailer including up the ramps? This and the resulting height might be a challenge for Option 3.

Boat is roughly 4000 lbs, trailer is roughly 2500-2700 (16' gooseneck vs 18' car trailer), UTV 1750, bikes 250.

Even a 34' aluminum double car trailer (34') is 2780 lbs so I will be within my 10,200 lb capacity.

In low, I don't see why my utv couldn't push the boat up backwards. I move the boat around the yard once in a while with it.

I don't know about double towing, especially near max capacity of tow vehicle. Wind, or even a solid gust created by a passing semi would have me concerned about a situation getting quickly out if control (tail wagging the dog). But I don't have extensive towing experience, perhaps you do and are comfortable with it.

Another thought... if you go to the same area these 3x a year, do you use the boat or utv anywhere else? If you only use the boat at this location, maybe find a place to rent/store the boat there? Then you can simply haul the utv/bikes up, drop them at camp, then go get the boat.

The comment on capacity was not related to your tow rating. It was referring to your payload capacity. Tundras run out of payload WAY before they hit their tow rating.

You sure your max tow rating is 10200 lbs? Most CM unless 2wd are a bit less. Considering you launch boats, probably don’t have a 2wd.

Second thing is CM capacity ratings are not the best. Check the sticker inside the drivers door where the tire information is. Start there.

Third I have never seen a 16’ GN flatbed, unless it’s a dump or bin loader or a light duty homemade one. Might be surprised on the pin weight of these trailers. Let’s pretend it’s the nominal 20% and pin weight is 580 lbs. Now toss on the toys. You don’t have a lot of deck space so the pin weight will be what it is. Now the boat will take some of this pin weight away. Something else to consider, you normally don’t see a shorter trailer pulling a longer one....

The rear frame of the GN will need to be modified and hopefully it’s a HD frame to handle the load. I’ve seen some pretty cool setups.

Now add up your family weight and go shopping for a new truck, buy a bigger GN trailer and pull doubles that way.

After getting a few estimates on trailers I was looking at, I am almost better off finding an old used truck/SUV and just taking two vehicles out on those 3 times/year. Even an older 4runner could handle the UTV and bikes.

Thanks for the help all. I appreciate it. Just needed to think about this out loud I guess.

Well, I figured if someone else was in my situation, maybe they would have better ideas than me. I know what my end results needs to be, but sometimes I have a hard time figuring out how to get there. :)

If my wife would just let me build a cabin with a 40 X 60 heated shop out west near the lake, my problems would all be solved.

    I thought this looked familiar.

Not sure why a second thread was needed for the same question.

I just installed this, quite easy. Installed Firestone airbags as well, and a (removable) B&W Companion 5th wheel hitch that fits in the turnover ball hole.

Ordered one of the lightest 5th wheels I could find (7200# dry).

Will post pictures later at which time I'll put on a fire retardant suit.

What do you think about 2009 raptor 299mp
    Length (ft-in / m)
    33' 0'' / 10.1
    Interior Height (in / mm)
    N/A
    Base Weight (lbs / kg)
    10010 / 4540.5
    Carrying Capacity (lbs / kg)
    4435 / 2011.7
    Hitch Weight (lbs / kg)
    2445 / 1109.1
    Number Of Axles
    2

It's a goose neck. I'd need to add the hitch in my bed (recommend one, preferably one that can be flat) and air bags (recommended bags?) I would only tow it maybe 1500 miles a year.

Way way way too big and heavy. The dry pin weight they they claim is already almost double your payload capacity.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not being fussy with you. Please take my questions as friendly questions you have been on scales and have towed riggs. I have over weighted my payload a few times towing with my factory tow package. If your pin weight can go to 3800lbs wouldn't this be able to tow ?

I understand the 10k tow capacity being to heavy but but would the tongue have more force that 3800 lbs.

There is one for sale near me.

    Thank you for your explanation.

Either way at some point I'll likely get a Gose Neck hitch and airbags or whatever for towing because I will have a dump trailer.

Long term I think you will regret buying a gooseneck/5th wheel trailer unless a bigger domestic truck is in the future.

The trailer would put a pretty good work out on my one ton diesel...let alone a half ton truck. The payload is almost double what your truck is rated for. Remember the rear axle is rated for 4100 lbs and 2700 lbs of that is sprung weight.
