Has anyone had issues with their clear coat peeling? I had a 2020 tundra that started peeling off on the hood when the truck was 5 months old. I now have a 2021 and it appears to have the same issue. I only have 1900 miles on this new truck. Got it as it came off the trailer. I just can't believe this is happening again. So wanted to see if anyone else ran into this

My 07 never had that issue at 12 years old. My 14 doesn't have that issue either. So you had a 2020 with that issue and now a 2021?

Yes, I don't know if something is going on at the factory or if I'm just unlucky

Are you sure it's not the clear protection film they sometimes apply on the hood? Where on the hood?

Can you get some better pics? Maybe someone else will chime in. I've had my 2021 for 2 months and just went out and looked and I don't see anything.

I see what you're talking about. So you're last truck did the same thing in the same spots? If so - I'd take that to the dealer and have them look at it.

I have had issues with my 2008 peeling the clear coat. A couple of years ago I had the top of the cab repainted because of peeling clear coat. Now the hood is peeling. This is my one complaint with Toyota - the quality of the clear coat finish but it is 13 years old.
No problems with the 2020 and it is eleven months old.

@Refusuck yes almost same exact spot that is why I thought I was loosing my mind. I actually had my brother in law look at it as well, cause I couldn't believe it.
@French Avocado my 2020 I took back and toyota paid to repaint it.

They had the truck for 3 to 4 days last time. I was very happy with the job they did.

My 2003 Tacoma is 3p1 red - and been in CA and TX all it's life - and is just now showing signs of peeling. Never been garaged or covered, but waxed and washed often. But I've seen a lot of gen 1 Taco's that are peeling around here.

I'd love to see who else chimes in with the same problem as you.

For a 2021 and I'd be at their front door first thing in the AM without worrying if it's a recurring problem with others !

I'll keep and eye out on mine - but since it's white - it's harder to see.

@Refusuck my 2020 was a white one seen it real easy.
@slowpokepete I will be there in the am, but with today being Easter I just noticed it today. Still in disbelief that this could happen twice to me now. This is now my 3rd tundra. Had a 2018, 2020 and now this 2021

The pics maybe aren't helping me see it, but are you sure it's not just a scratch in the clear? I had plenty of dealer-installed swirls and scuffs on my 2020 when I took delivery at 119 miles, but they all came out with a good polish. I've overall been blown away by the quality of my paint, not trying to sound like a Toyota shill either. Maybe it's just because I had 3 black vehicles prior to this gray truck...

    Keep us posted OP!

Yeah, it's not a swirl mark. Like I said I went through this with my 2020 so I guess it stands out to me like a sore thumb. I am going to take it to the dealers body shop and see what they say. Hopefully that's all it is and can be buffed out. But the truck just hit 2 months old should not be seeing this. Definitely will update how I make out.

I'm not sure what that is, but it doesn't look like all the clear has peeled. Without clear, your paint would have zero gloss. Base coat has a flat or satin appearance. It appears that the edge of the hood still has gloss.

To see what the base coat looks like, open your hood. Areas of the front radiator support and inside fenders is base coat only without clear. Base coat has a flat finish until topcoated with clear.

Try dragging a finger nail lightly across that line. If it's the edge of peeled clear coat, your nail will hang up on the line.
