I snapped one of the two bolts that attach the latch to the grille a while back. It works. I haven't lost any sleep over it but wondering if this is a replaceable latch assembly.... or do I need to buy the whole kit n kaboodle with the cable and all...

Eureka! That might be the part. Hard to tell from the diagram depiction but they state that the drawing may not match exactly. Thank you.

hmmmm, looking more closely.... it could also be #14 & #15 in the diagram, listed as Lever Assembly and Lever Assembly Snap? (both discontinued)

Based on my readings here, the hood latch lever assembly that goes on the hood itself is discontinued as you see. Best place is a pick-a-part.

Not sure if Dorman makes a replacement ad I've never had to look.

I bought the snap when mine broke a couple of months ago off eBay. Type that part number in and there are some of the whole assembly for sale on there as well. Looks like around $50.

Why don't you just drill and use an EZ Out on the broken bolt? Then buy a new bolt.

Because it's really frozen in there. Introducing a drill and easy-out would shatter the 20yr old plastic it's housed in before that broken bolt would give up the ghost. Then... I'd be screwed. This, I know.
For now, it's working fine. If I git on it like that... it'll be another one of my Texas two-steps for sure.

So, the piece the bolt screws into is plastic?

Yes. It has a helicoil or metal insert (embedded in a chunk of plastic) to receive the bolt. Excellent Japanese engineering.

Mine broke too. eBay has OEM replacements for $30. Bushings inside the plastic started spinning so I had to cut it out.

Looks like the same part from eBay in that thread but has a different part number and is listed as compatible for Lexus. Probably would work but I WLL NOT do business with ebay. I had a dispute with them years ago and eBay is forever on my shit list. NEVER AGAIN.
I'll find the part elsewhere... or not at all.
