Driveshaft carrier bearing movement Normal or Not

    2008 Crewmax with 125K. Need some thoughts on if this movement is normal or not? I cannot seem to find an specs on how much movement this should have. But the rubber boot does have a small split at the bottom.

    You've got a few more miles left in that one until the bearing completely wears out and chews up the rubber. Then you'll hear a singing noise that resembles light brake squealing That mileage was right where mine decided to blow out. The OEM unit is around $170, I did that and busted it 6mo later. I swapped in a $70 Orielly one and haven't had any trouble since. Get your U-joints inspected too since you'll have to break it apart to service the carrier. Its typically around $300 for a driveshaft shop to rebuild it. If I were back in Nashville I could help ya!

    Usually when the center bearing is worn out the U-joints are worn as well, putting more stress on the center bearing and hastening its demise. My mechanic recommended always replacing U-joints when replacing center support bearing, I do so, removing the shaft myself and sending it to Oceanside Driveline http://www.oceansidedriveline.com/. They disassemble, new U-joints, new carrier bearing, service slip yoke, clean, paint, and balance. Good as new!
