I was just curious after tracking my fuel consumption from full tank to empty (~320 miles). Has anyone thought or actually tried to expand the existing tank or borrowed one from another car to fit it? I am legitimately curious because it would be awesome to lengthen my travel range without having to carry soo much extra fuel or stop and fuel up as often. Just curious :)

No aftermarket tanks I know of, but an auxiliary tank could easily fit where the spare goes.. but then unless you have a bumper with a swing out tire carrier, you’d have to keep your spare in the bed

I never thought about replacing the spare tire area with a aux tank, thats an awesome idea! Has anyone done this or attempted? I really want to know. I have no issues with throwing my spare in my bed, I'll just strap it down to the side or where ever. I'll still carry spare fuel and water but having that extra travel range is pretty dope. :D

Same concept I had been considering but for holding water was to replace the spare as stated above. Bronco 2 tanks are popular with ranger guys because they fit where the spare tire goes on those trucks. Something like that wouldn't be too hard to find.

I'm just guessing here, but you'd probably just use the spare tank to feed into the main tank that way you'd only need something like a simple inline fuel pump like a cheap aitex e2000. That's the standard inline pump for many vehicles including the b2 if I recall. Once again I'm just guessing here. Still seems like a reserve tank with a transfer pump to the main tank seems easy enough.

Another option is a cheap racing style fuel cell in the bed of the truck or with some fab work down through the bed. Pretty common stuff with desert style prerunners. Jegs and summit had modestly priced cells with internal bladders when I was more into that stuff.

This is the route I’d go if needed. Your concept takes less valuable room under with the spare which is a rearranging the chairs idea. Your idea could also expand to a longer tank and be used on both sides or just behind the cab.

That looks like a good route for an aux tank! My uncle got this 2002 Tundra and wanting to have an aux tank as well. We'll just finish installing the new of tires from 4Wheelonline this week and we'll consider that.

Anyone here ever considered buying a used Tundra tank and enlarging it?

There’s some cheaper versions out there maybe under 1k.
Or roll your own? Just a bunch of Jerry cans with hoses running down doesn’t convey confidence in anyone’s safety though

I’d be in for a bigger tank if it was less than 1000 and used the factory sender. 30-35 gal would be great

30 gallon tank would be great. I could probably get 450 or so miles outta that. Lucky to get 350 now.

Aren't our tanks 26 as is? I would pay some pretty decent money for a bolt in 35-40 gallon tank. I would not go through the trouble for less than 10 gallons. I think @shoe07 has this problom solved on a budget. My 4runner got the same 10-11 mpg towing in the Ozarks. The tank on those is about 15 and comfortable range is to use about 130. The Tundra feels like it doubled my capacity.

Yeah, 30 useable gallons. Would likely have to be at least a 34 gallon tank.

correct, 2nd gen trucks started in 2007 and ran through 2021. 1st gens were 2000-2006. They are quite different. . . . .

Ah, I was confused, I didn't see that you own a 2020. I was thinking you were trying to fit this tank in a 1st gen, as you are posting in a 1st gen thread, you may receive better assistance in the 2 or 2.5 gen area. . .
