I don't think there is one single thing that is to blame for the way people are now days. It's been a multitude of well intended bad ideas, knee jerk reactions, and the general shittiness of humanity as a whole that has gotten us to this point. That said, I think the biggest contributor is a complete lack of personal responsibility and the coddling nature of "society" pushing the idea that none of your problems are your fault. It's the world's fault. All the ills and issues were just foisted upon you, and you are the shitty person you are because of them, not because you've made poor decisions that have had consequences. Mommy and Daddy didn't hug you enough, so it's ok that you are abusive/rude/useless. You don't know better. It leads to excuses, not owning up to one's actions, and a victim mentality that is a total barrier to improving one's own standing.

The reality is this: We are all where we are because of decisions we have made. Sure, things happen beyond our control, or things are inflicted upon us, but how we handle them is entirely on us. How we handle events also has a far more profound effect on who we are than the events themselves ever could. Look at all the inspirational stories of people struggling through adversity. The ones who are ok after terrible events/choices are those who choose to work hard at improving and don't let the bad things destroy them. They don't blame their parents, their friends, or anyone else for who they themselves are. They own it, and work to be better people.

Trouble is, most don't see this and don't want to. It's easier to be a victim. It's easier to say you're powerless to change anything and just be miserable. If none of your problems are YOUR problems, then you cannot possibly fix them, and for most if it's not your fault then that's ok.

This mentality has led to societal decay. If your issues aren't yours, then somebody else is at fault. Everybody else is, and so it's ok to blame everyone else. Neighbors become strangers who would rather call the cops over nonsense than talk to the person next door.

We don't live in a society anymore. We are all strangers and enemies who happen to live close to each other.

This all started with the "everybody gets a trophy" bullshit, and why bother to keep score, it isn't important???

I actually just come here to get maintenance/repair advise on my 2001 Tundra sometimes... believe it or not.

Now where is the "like" button so I can validate my post?
