So....a while ago, I posted a thread about poor customer service from them, which I eventually got straightened out. Today, I see a Facebook post that says "40 percent off of D3FY"....which is a product I really like...so I was going to let everyone know about it. I decided to go out and look at it, and all they did was jack up the regular price to cover the 40 percent, then showed the normal everyday price as the sale price. I bought a gallon of this stuff and paid 70.00 for it, which, amazingly enough, currently shows as the 'sale' price, where the everyday price is 119.95. Shame on you, Ethos Car Care.

Sadly, it's a very common practice for most sales these days.

I've even seen Costco do it with their Tires when they have a $100 rebate, while looking for my wife's vehicle.

Price was $50 cheaper a few months ago with NO rebate, then they are now with a $100 rebate.

Bummer. The industry has more integrity than most, but there’s always going to be outliers.

Looks like they took their Facebook ad down once some folks posted how D3FY wasn't really on sale

So....today...they tried re-posting the original one....which I quickly replied to.....they then took it down again and re-posted it without claiming that the stuff is on sale. I've heard that their owner has been banned from a couple of FB detailing groups

Ive seen the same with a couple of other companies. Surprised they haven’t banned you yet. That’s what Topcoat F11 and Dallas Paint Correction do, and they do it so quickly I wonder if it’s automated.

Hey OP, seeing that this is now the second related thread you have made towards your experiences with us, don't forget that you are always welcome to direct any feedback to us directly. We are always open to hear ways we can further improve our products or services.

Of course, you are entitled to your opinion we believe its fair for us to clarify your gripe with our pricing. Our sale pricing which is shown on the website reflects the retail cost savings for buying in larger quantities. As you have stated in regards to Defy for example, the sale price of the Gallon is relative to if you were to buy 8 x 16oz sized bottles. It is not to be deceptive or trick any consumers but to show the savings attributed to buying our products in larger quantities.

We are not in the business to deceive or trick our customers, putting forth all the effort and time it takes to acquire customers, make good products in a very competitive market place only to turn them away by deceptive marketing is not a smart, nor sustainable strategy. As a brand we are better off finding ways to ensure our customers continue to shop with us for many years to come and that is ensuring their experience with both the products and our representatives is as positive as can be. Companies that succeed are those who find ways to do this best and that process will ALWAYS benefit the consumer ultimately.

Don't hesitate to reach out to us directly if you ever have any questions, comments or concerns in the future.

    -Tim

Seems strange that they joined the forum four months after the original post to “clarify”…….OP states they have a good product and he paid $70 for a gallon of product and it was then hiked up to $120 to feign a “40% off sale price”. Seems to me that $70 is the regular price - then to say “well it is a sale” compared to buying 8 sixteen ounce bottles seems suspect at best.

in this day and age, especially in this industry, people are willing to pay a premium. If the products had a market increase or costs went up, just say so. Let your customers know that although you regret the fact that prices have increased, you thank them for their loyalty, mention that you still make a great product and that costs have increased to the point where you need to offset margins. I am sure people would appreciate that transparency much more. I am with the OP - seems shady

They have no choice but to ignore or to reply they do not have the power to edit or delete negative posts on this platform like they do on Instagram or Facebook. I am 100% with @briarpatch on this and there are way to many manufacturers of great products to stick with one that pulls this kind of stuff.

I don't even know what they sell, but joining a forum and making your first post to defend your , call it "questionable" business practices in the middle of the night doesn't exactly scream up and up to me. I think posting in the middle of the night he hoped it would just sift this thread to the bottom and no one would notice

If that was the intention they truly did not do their homework on the quality of our detailing threads on this forum. IMO they are some of the best on the inter webs

Not really. I called it for what it was....pure and unadulterated BS. Ethos car care is the purveyor of some really good products, and do not have to resort to insulting peoples intelligence with subterfuge, and subsequent (poor)attempt at damage control. Today's educated consumer has a ton of good products to choose from, and it's instances like this one that can sour people to one brand/distributor. It's my hope that they learn from this and abandon the ploy of the 'mathematical smoke and mirrors' simply to move product in an already crowded market.

For what it's worth, I will say again what a good and versatile product Defy is. Try a 16oz bottle and it will prove its mettle.

And they tend to come up as first page Google hits on several products. That’s likely how they stumbled across this thread. I know DPC became aware of @Pudge criticisms almost immediately.

I’m sure you have enough knowledge to recognize shady business practices when you see them. Luckily the percentage of dishonest companies in this industry is almost microscopic.
Good rule of thumb: If a company does almost all their marketing through Facebook and Youtube ads, they’re probably bullshit.
