Hey all - I'm looking to buy a used 2000 Toyota Tundra, which when I ran the VIN it came up as an SR5. But when I went to actually see the truck it has the TRD emblem on the back, and somewhere else on the side of the vehicle I thought I saw TRD Pro but don't have a picture - which was confusing because I thought the first TRD Off road package didn't come out until 2002, and TRD Pro didn't come out until 2007? What's going on here and should I be concerned? I attached a picture of the back, sorry it's blurry (the TRD is above the Tundra emblem).

That looks very aftermarket or an eBay special. Seen people swap the SR5 logo for a TRD badge.

    Welcome to the forum Mel..

Toyota didn't make a Tundra TRD Pro until 2015 or 2016 I believe..

As @jerryallday and @OHw3ndlingTRD stated, someone is just aftermarket sticker, decal, and/or emblem happy..
Many of us remove emblems and decals, looks like your seller liked to add them..

Chances are it is an SR5 if the VIN run told you that..
Not that there is anything wrong with that....:D

Looks like it has a nice 7 pin trailer plug...

How is the seller advertising it? Are they saying they're selling a 2000 Tundra SR5 with bogus badges or are they saying it's an ultra-rare 2000 TRD Pro that they're about to post on BaT for a $25K payday?

if you haven't done so already, run the VIN at Toyota drivers to see the build sheet. It's a bit of a pain but the site will tell you factory spec, port options and maintenance history.

SR5 is a spec, TRD OR is a package. No Tundra ever came with that tailgate sticker. @jimf909 is right. That's the way to tell if it came with the TRD OR package or not....or call the dealer with VIN.

    Best answer right here. ^^^

My 2002 is SR5 and it has as an Option the OF (off road package).

That badge was never installed during 1st gen Tundra production. And, I think they would have gone with the off-road edition here had it existed:

Somebody’s added that, it’s good for a solid 50 extra hp

I don’t have any issues with people adding badges or swapping there trucks badges out for a different style. Just be up front about it if your selling

That's the Toyota equivalent of a stick-on hood scoop.

Thanks all for the responses. I checked Toyota website and it's definitely an SR5. The seller doesn't seem to know much about cars and said he's not mechanically inclined, and he's the 3rd owner of the truck so something tells me he didn't even notice - although I did recently message him about that and waiting on a response. He also is selling it for the average KBB for the VIN listed so doesn't look like he's trying to make a profit off the TRD part.

Agree 100%. "Yeah, I got that badge off e-bay and stuck it on 'cause I think it looks cool" is entirely different from intentionally misrepresenting what you're selling.

I can get on board with people switching something out with a different style or adding something more colorful, but adding anything that indicates some package level that the rig doesn't have is just poser. It's the same as a Sport level Jeep having Rubicon stickers on it or a 5.7L Ram with Cummins badging. Real cringe energy.

Maybe he bought it, got enamored with the V8 and some races developed. Wouldn't be false advertisement then.

There were Ivan Stewart and a Dale Waltrip Tundras, but they didn't come out until 2002 and 2006 respectively. I think that they were mostly wheels, stickers, grill, and maybe something on the interior.
