Got gas this weekend and then check engine light came on with a misfire, cleared the code. Drove for another day and then check engine light flashing, 4LO flashing and trac light on...truck running really rough. Got it to the dealer and it’s a blown head gasket...we’ll see what insurance says tomorrow when the adjuster comes out. Tech says most likely happened under boost and caused early detonation

Man that sucks, sorry to hear that. What kind of engine management do you run?

That does suck. Good job though, if you aren’t breaking stuff your limiting the fun factor. Might want to check the gas to be safe.

Why would insurance help with a head gasket issue?

With the supercharged application especially, early detonation (spark firing before cylinder is lifted)is caused by poor fuel quality and or water contaminated gas. This then will cause a head gasket to blow out.

If everything goes well, supercharger will get serviced and coupler replaced. I will also be adding an Auburn LSD to the rear end while rebuilding the diff(original reason the truck was going into the shop)

By insurance? Again, I'm really curious why insurance would cover this. Please explain.

Through your policy or the gas station? What insurance carrier?

Have to have a good technician to explain why bad gas would cause a blown head gasket because of water contaminated fuel.

The fuel sample proves the case as well. No pre-existing conditions, got gas then the next day the truck started to misfire because of coolant in the cylinder.

I have been with Geico for 8 years and this is only my second claim, so that may have helped as well.

I think you blew a few minds along with the gasket. Most folks have no idea this is the kind of thing that makes great insurance worth it vs minimal coverage with a crummy company.

Glad it's on its way to whole again!
