Hey guys, another question ‍‍♂️ Did my power steering pump replacement on Sunday and it’s making this whine, it goes away after a while idling but it’ll come back when accelerating and especially turning it gets loud enough to be embarrassing.. could it be the pump? It was a remanufactured cardone pump, the steering feels better even with the pump it’s just the noise I cannot handle. I tried the method Toyota says by jacking up the truck and turning the wheels click to click, but what else should I look for? I just don’t want to damagethe pump if it’s another issue that’s causing this.

Have you bled the system since installation?
Using the correct trans fluid in the steering system?

I used prestone power steering fluid, maybe that’s where I went wrong? But i did bleed it the way Toyota says, maybe I’ll try again just in case i did it wrong, but it says jack up the front, turn the wheels each side a couple of times but I do not open up the reservoir when doing this correct?

Should be Dex II or III ATF.
I highly recommend a flush if the Prestone stuff you used isn't Dex II or III spec.

Indeed. If you look on the cap, it tells you to use ATF like Glock40 mentioned.

Well I had a family mechanic of mine replace the pump, he didn’t really flush any of the fluids he just topped it off with the prestone and attempted to bleed the air out on the ground. Is flushing the system a hard process? I’d like to do it myself to make sure everything is properly done

Fluid is contaminated by Prestone stuff... flush. Your guy has created a new chemical cocktail. Pump might not likey the new drink.
Also, follow the bleeding procedure to a tee. Have someone steering and someone monitoring the reservoir. 2 person job, no lifting advised.

HELLS YA! I highly recommend lifting that beautiful T3. Supercharger and headers are also a great idea.

Haha thank you, thought about it down the line, but right now I’m taking it step by step with the engine . And you mean no lifting advised as lifting the truck??

Just sayin you don't need to lift it when doing the bleed or flush. Park it flat.

Isn’t the clear/yellow stuff they use from the factory PS fluid?

My understanding is that it's not. Supposedly they have access to clear Dexron 2 or 3 fluid. The red color is just a dye sold to the public from what I understand to make it easily distinguishable.

DEX/Merc is the fluid you want.

Toyota Steering Pump is the part you want.

Could be the replacement is bad also, but always put all new fluid in when replacing, takes the guess work out of whether it's the fluid or not.

Update : flushed the entire system with valvoline multi atf, pump is 10 times quieter, still makes a tiny whine, but overall it’s very much so better than before with the fake supercharger whine it gave. Thank you all ! I’ll be doing a double din radio install and some different speakers this weekend hopefully, if I get around to it !
