I like the fold ups in my 2015 crewmax but they need some damn cargo storage underneath the seats

Pretty much the same. Dont really care which way it folds, but give me some damn storage compartments!
And the slider on the rear of the 07-13 was kind of cool too.

I had a 2010 CM and now own a 2015 CM. For me, I liked the old seats better as they allowed better "permanent" storage behind the seat for emergency items such as jack, shovel, comealong, tools, etc. You could also slide the rear seats forward a bit which considering how big the back seat is, does not impact occupant space significantly and it would allow you to recline the seat where today you cannot. I have kids, so I kept the rear seats adjusted up to give me an extra few inches of space allowing me to put an immense amount of stuff back there, while allowing an empty bed for day to day items. It was also nice for extended trips where you could put gear such as coats and such behind the seat.

I can see how the average person would like the Gen3's better as lifting the seat gives real storage in the rear seats, where with the Gen2, it would have been a nightmare stacking anything on top of the seat. I had an ARE LSII tonneau on my old 2010, so I had hidden/secure storage in the bed and never used the rear seats for storage. With my 2015, I felt the secure storage crunch immediately before I bought the new tonneau for it. The seats worked nicely for items I wanted secured, but it is still limited. The month of ownership on my 2015 really showed me just how much I relied on my tonneau/bed for secure storage.

So for me, I don't like the new design because I already have secured storage of the tonneau which meant the usability of the rear seat was more important for me. I can see however that I am likely in the minority.

Here are my pros and cons. This assumes that rear passengers are riding in the vehicle most of the time.

    2nd Gen

    Pro
    - Permanent storage behind seat with a "set it/forget it" mentality ensuring you have emergency items when you break down; er, uhh, I mean get stuck in 3' of snow in the middle of nowhere, where the likes of Chevy and Dodge could never get to you.
    - climate controlled storage behind rear seat for those personal items you don't want in the bed, such as clothes, guns, etc. Very usable for trips be it camping, hunting, skiing, (ski boots/clothes kept warm).
    - Slide the seat forward and back without impacting passengers legroom while allowing modest storage without affecting said passengers.
    - Can recline the rear seats for more comfort.

    Con
-No true secure in vehicle storage for mid size items. They tried, but come on, really? I think they got themselves in trouble by getting cute and marketing it as a feature, for people to try it and fail miserably. It now opened the window for complaints mandating a change.

    3rd Gen

    Pro
-Secure/ climate controlled storage of mid size items when zero to two rear passengers are in the vehicle allowing to fold up one or both sides.

    Con
    - I really hate not being able to use the space behind the seats. I think it is a waste of space and with the setup now, it seems quite limited on what you could put there because of the shape of the floor. It makes the cab solely for passengers.
    - Toyotas excuse to put a flimsy insulation partition between seat and the guts of the bed. There is no longer a solid partition like on the Gen2's. beyond perceived quality, I also dislike this as it seems you could easily lose an item underneath it requiring you to pull out the seat as to retrieve it. Seems like they cut a corner here.
    - Did I mention I really hate losing that permanent storage behind the seat? I don't like keeping these items in the bed for a multitude of reasons, with the main one being you have a tendency to remove them for more space or projects...
    - Had they included an under storage locker I have seen here as an aftermarket, it would be better, but I still would miss the length.

    Thats all I got... :)

BTW, there are a lot of options in the poll, but none for those who have owned both. I think they will provide good feedback as well.

Great poll, I have thought about this as well.

I wish the 3rd gen CM had more storage space either under, or behind the seats like the 2nd gens had. That, and you can't recline the rear seats like you can in the 2nd gen.

To be frank, I have enough storage in my 2010 CM both inside the cab and in the bed (two SwingCases). So that's not my concern.

When I show my truck to other non-Toyota truck owners, their jaws drop when I show them the rear seats slide and recline. I was sad to see that with 2014+, that bragging rights are gone.

I as well have owned 3 tundras. 1st ,2nd, and now 3rd gen.crew max. I miss my rear seat back storage. I plan on either building or buying a storage unit for the floors wasted space.

I did the rear seat mod in my 07 dc, so I have rear fold up and fold down seats.

I bought the truck because of that slide recline back seat. Kids sleep better and you got all that permanent by accessible behind seat storarge.
With the window down and the seat folded down you can pile a lot of 4x8 anything in there with nothing hanging out the back.

Cant do that anymore with the stuck up seat back

Give them less and call it more.

I had a 2008, 2011, currently 2013 CM. Now waiting for an ordered 2016 CM. I am very disopoint with the lost storage and reclining rear seats. I am looking to install a under seat after market storage for all my gear that I currently have under and behind the 2013 CM.

They should offer options of rear seat configuration as they do for front: bench or bucket seats. Fold up or fold down rear seats.

I have the double cab 2015 it would be nice if the back seat folded down as well as flipped up. I managed to stuff some things behind the seat like toe strap, tiedowns but it's difficult to get at them. I don't see why they couldn't make the back even just cock forward enough to get my freaking arm in there.
