I think the concensus for many are the factory headers work quite well. I was actually about ready to pull the trigger on some doug thorley tri y s but I found out they are not street legal.

I run thorleys on my Taco and love them. I'll probably do same on Tundra

OBX. They are definitely stainless, comes with a stainless y pipe, pretty cheap, no leaks with percy gaskets. I think I paid like $430 on ebay for them. No clearance issues either.

I have JBA short tubes on my 2002, but only because the factory manifolds cracked.

If I was in your position, I’d do Long Tubes as you are starting from scratch. Bite the bullet. They cost more but provide the most gains. An exhaust expert here talked me out of Short Tubes as my existing system isn’t broken/cracked and the money to do shorties is a waste. It also kills Torque he says compared to the Stock.

Long tubes is they way he says.

I have heard this, but it has not been my experience... my experience is quite the opposite. As for the OP's situation, go long tube with a custom H or X pipe dual exhaust or go home.

Yeah. That was my reading experience as well, but when talking with this expert he said otherwise. I’ll take your word for it as maybe I was trying to be sold some Long Tubes and I don’t need them with a my current Brand New Muffler and Manifolds still in operable condition.

The Short Tube change out looks like agony. OP is in a good position for Long Tubes.

I went with a Magnum sensor simulator for the post cat o2's. Cost too much money, and only worked for a few months. Been running with a check engine light for awhile. Going to try welding on some bungs this weekend, drilling a small hole and putting in sensor simulators and brand new stock o2 sensors to hopefully clear the code.
    just an FYI
(Only had to go this route because I got rid of cats & resonators)

Go with JBA long tubes off of Underdogracingdevelopment.com. Get the ceramic coated ones so you don’t start melting stuff. Get new nuts from the Toyota dealer.

How loud are the short headers? Still a relatively quite ride in the Cab?...

Short tube headers are not known to increase the volume much at all, I have them on my 2002 4.7 and they have been great for going on 18 years now.

I have an in the cab video of Doug Thorley headers with stock muffler and cats. Windows are down but they are still quiet. The loud engine sounds you initially hear during the 2nd acceleration were coming from a diesel Ram in the adjacent lane, not my Tundra.

Sounds very nice. From what I’ve read, they don’t make those headers anymore right? Were those short headers as well? Did you notice a little more power?

    thanks

They still make them. I got mine from urdusa.com. They are a bit longer than the other typical shorty headers for the 4.7. Install requires modification of the mid pipes (cutting and welding new flanges) to accommodate the added length. It does feel like it pulls harder throughout the entire RPM range but that's hard to quantify. I've got a thread about them you check out for more details. https://www.tundras.com/threads/looking-for-exhaust-advice.77633/

Seems like a lot of work went into your system. They sure do look purty!
