I paid MSRP for mine, and the few dealer add ons that I wasn't interested in (Hello stamp stickers and "technology" kit) but it certainly didn't sway me away.

I knew what I wanted, and had a great experience with my 126k mile 2014 SR5, that my Son now drives.

Hard to see but here is where you find the dealer markup before TLL

    Is that $72K??!!
I'd find a good used Pro with 30K miles or less and laugh every time I passed a stealership or bank!

That’s suck Steve, I know there marked up a lot depending where you live. I’m in Pa and there was a dealer in NJ not far from Pa and they had there LunaRock at $66,000. I called and said no thank you. Just my opinion if you would have had time to locate one in another State I would have flown there or drove there and drive it back home. Especially if you found one msrp.

72,964 to be exact. It seems to be the same for pretty much every dealer in Socal. Not just Pros. I was looking at a 4runner Off Road 2 days ago and it had 5k Dealer markup as it was the only one on the lot. This was a different dealer but I walked this time.

Mine was spur of the moment. As stated earlier I wasn't even looking for one I was looking for 4runner for the wife. I have a friend that flew out to Florida to pick up one. His was only $5k Markup after MSRP Plus flight and long drive home.

    Not sure at this point.
    California prices, ridiculous...

Anywhere in the Bay Area from San Jose to San Francisco, when I was still shopping for 4Runners, those had crazy amounts of mark ups along with CA's TTL fees.

If you want the limited options then it may make sense to get the pro. But if you only want a sr5 those could be had for 40k. Then if not in a hurry wait for some pro take offs suspension parts or go bigger with aftermarket. I like the pro's but only for the color match and suspension. I don't care about anything on the inside or the bed stamp.

TRD Sport is colour matched and someone just said you can get the Pro suspension for $3k. So something like $43k vs $63k+ for a Pro.

Again - not doubting dealers in certain markets (like SoCal) ASK stupid market adjustments- nor that they occasionally get them....my point is the market as a whole would not allow them. These markets are max 5% of the USA sales figures.

To a counter point - if the market WAS giving these types of adjustments as a standard, you would see used prices reflect it too. I just looked at Carmax a few days ago - 2019 Pro CM with 30k miles - ask of 52k. Now to me that seemed ludicrously high...but if a 2021 new cost 78k...it would feel like a steal. Ditto Carvana/Vroom - I've seen a few Pro's in the 50s...year old, lower mileage examples. These retailers sell nationwide - so there is no regional premium (aside from shipping) and no marked up dealer fees. Trust me - if there were 2 buyers standing in line to pay these prices- these 3 would raise there price accordingly.

As to vehicles sitting on the lot gathering dust - won't happen for a variety of reasons. First, thanks to the generosity of buyers who paid 15k over sticker in market adjustments- they now have larger indoor showrooms. Also, once the vehicle is in the floor plan - if its financed with the distributor - a distributor can and will allocate stale inventory to someone else. They don't want it to look like no one is buying their cars or like the line is struggling. Again - exceptions exist, but distributors won't let a store become a museum - if a dealer is hoarding up a model - they will adjust future allocation.

So this looks like a pretty darn good deal. Not researched though...

I dint follow your math here -

An SR5 with TRD Sport pack is 46,980 MSRP

    A TRD Pro is 54,700

Both of these are 4wd, CMs

So let's say you can get 3k off the SR5 - which is probably about right. That basically offsets the cost of the suspension work.

Your left with 47k for an SR5 upgraded or 55k for a Pro.

    Thats 8k difference - substantial, yes...but not 20k difference.

There's a difference in trucks - but its apples and oranges. When you start comparing the lowest priced used in the market vs a new high end trim - your not even comparing fruits.

I don't mean to fan flames or stir anything up, but I can't not reply here.

Everyone is absolutely entitled to their opinion, but your entire statement added zero to this discussion, and is a perfect example of how NOT to participate in a forum. I get it, non-pro guys want to say "you waste $20k", while pro guys will say "Its X differential". At the end of the day, no one here is paying for anyone else's vehicle, so we should simply encourage healthy discussion on the differences with fact and substance, rather than conjecture and assumption. Help guide someone, but don't belittle them, or any other participant in the process.

It's 100% not a waste unless someone states they wasted their own money. Even if/when someone does state that, it still doesn't validate your statement. If the thread is boring, get out of it without announcing your exit as though we were all so fortunately graced with your presence.

    /end rant.

I paid $57k for my pro, which was roughly $59.8k after TT&L. Best OTD price I could get on an SR5 in Cement (only color I considered if building it out myself) was $47 OTD. It was worth $12k(ish), and my time to go Pro, when it was what I was imitating in the long run. I saw quite a few Pros marked up in different markets well above MSRP, mainly on the Lunar Rock color, but to a lessor degree, the SW, MGM, and Black as well.

So this thread has traveled several places but mostly morphed into a debate over buying a TRD Pro vs. buying/upgrading other trims. For my sanity, please OP remind me of where you are today with your final decisions.
    Thanks.

    Yes - I don't get it...the thread "got boring" I pointed out the 20k savings was 8k.

Again - to each their own. If you are the type who is going to spend 30k in mods on a truck - agreed - buy base and add to it to taste. And if your not looking to mod - buy whatever comes with your "must haves" or as close as possible.

But the attitudes around here are just plain pointless and stupid. Ford and Ram owners hangout on internet forums to complain about all the "problems" (real and perceived) with their trucks...Toyota doesn't have those so people here have to find something to complain about - guess its how overpriced their vehicles are and how anyone who pays more is wrong.

Once again - there is no one sized fits all model/trim or make ! I will stand by my earlier statement - most people buying a Toyota do not pay more than 8% above sticker in "add-ons" and very few pay "market adjustments". Too competitive of a market out there with too many sellers. Yes - supply is tight, and demand is high...but we are not seeing overall craziness in the market.

My searching in NC and Ohio/Pa found me 3 2021 Pros at sticker - with 2 dealers I would just leave my card and they would run it once they got a confirmed allocation to hold for me. Third had the allocation and I took it...only thing is I need to sign in their office at delivery (no ship to me option).

If anyone is interested in Central Ohio (or wants to drive there) - drop me a PM and I will share name/email of salesperson as they should still have 1 to sell. Price was 56 and change, 250 dealer fee, 35 title and 249 for something else were only add ons aside from tax...with local tax (7.25%) came out right at 60k from memory. Again - taxes vary by region - and should be able to get that adjusted based on your state - title as well.

The 56k included truck/freight to dealer, spray in bedliner and spare tire lock and predator steps if I recall correctly. I could care less about a spare lock (75), the side steps and bedliner id probably opt for my own installer/brand of choice if not already there- but cost were small and to me worth it to secure the chance at what I liked.

It's because you are looking at an expensive marked up used Limited.

A new one is about 46-47k msrp according to toyota and I have seen them locally for around that price.

Then you can get about 10% off that price so that puts the limited at around $40k + taxes vs the pros which are $51-52k + tax because you don't get any markup.

A base Sr5 would be 3K-4k cheaper than the limited soo so that's about $13-14k cheaper than the pro.
You don't need the Trd package on the sr5, if you gonna get that then might as well go for the limited which has more features for a little more.

The pro is great and all but due to the outdated design, it's not massively more advanced than a limited or an sr5, specially the limited because the pro is a factory built up limited.

If you add some bilsteins 5100, leather seats, nice wheels and tires, led headlights, trd exhaust and color match the bumpers of an sr5, you basically have 95% of a pro right there for $10k less.

To a limited you just add tires, wheels, chrome delete and nice shocks and boom basically a cheaper pro that's also easier to get.

Not to knock down the Pro, I really want a DC Lunar Rock but it's so hard to get and the markups make it difficult to justify but there is no denying that is an awesome truck that will keep its value should you choose to sell it.

I don’t get the love for the pro. Aside from cool paint colors you could build a way more badass tundra without the stupid TRD seat badges. Plus I’ve seen a lot that are cloth. Aside from the now newly fox shocks, leveling kit, and TRD exhaust. Which dirty deeds has better ones. What are you getting for your $$? Toyota fucked up and should’ve had a supercharged option for another $10k they’d have sold way more.

I ordered my 21 TRD Pro through my dealer for MSRP out the door. $57,600. Felt like that was a great deal for the truck, and I'm very happy with my purchase. I've owned a lot of trucks and this one is the best riding by far with the Fox system. I have also noticed that the leather on the seats and steering wheel is much higher quality than what is in my Lariat Ford.

Agree, but I'm not looking to buy so I didn't validate it. I paid not much less for my 2016 1794 (CPO) with 30K miles a few months back, so it hurts a bit to see a deal this good. I was just knocking around on C.L. when I found it on the Baltimore list. I looked around all over the U.S. and newer Pros with low miles are very hard to find. There is also a modified black 2020 Pro in Atlanta with 17K miles, but they want around $57K and seems too close to a new Pro's pricing to me....However, this still might not be a bad deal depending on the mods and who wants them.

I'm skeptical about that clean title status.

Sure. Understood. Most deals that look too good to be true usually are. But...if all is good, then looks like someone might get a great deal. :notsure:
