    It's new tire time.

I have a 4 X 2 4.6 V8 with 275 65 18 Terra Grappler G2s. Got 55K miles out of them. Tryin to decide if I want to go to an HT or AT tire.

Any recommendations on AT tires and HT tires?

    Thanks BIG

    Alot of them
Nitro Ridge Grapplers, Falken Wildpeaks, and Cooper AT3 are popular choices.

How do you use the truck? HT for street use and no snow or mud. AT for slight off road use and better snow and mud traction. HT will be quieter and have a very slight mpg advantage.

The next great Tundra tire is the Firestone XT. Thank me later :) domestics are cheaper these days. If you rarely go off road the Michelin defender is worth the squeeze.

Toyo AT3 and call it a day, and while you are at it bump up to a 275/70r18.

I’m not sold on this bro tire or this post. I’m sure it’s a great tire but why is this the best? Help me understand. Looks like you’re out west. We have a lot of rain where I live. A lot. Toyo are kinda bad in the rain no? You probably don’t know.and they are made near me for west coast and bros.

I was all on board with these and then I realized no one is reviewing them for anything but road noise. Guess I’m wound too tight, but I want the best.

Toyo is definitely the Cali bro tire that isn’t so great in the rain. Until I see more on this I’ll assume they’re the same. My neighbor could barely drive his at 2 in the rain. He got new tires very early due to this. It is a big deal. If the OP is in the desert only then I’d say yeah hit it up with the Toyo or Nitto whatever tire. They are apparently great to mount and balance. Just really sucky in rain. Prove me wrong.

Looks like I'm out West? My profile says Harrison Arkansas and I'm located in the Ozark Mountains. To preface I have these in LT on my 2020 4runner and last month when we had roughly 8-10" of snow after a couple inches of ice I took the 4runner out before the streets were plowed and tried to have fun but couldn't basically because of the 4runner and the tires in 2wd and 4wd, it just stayed hooked up. On my previous 2017 Tundra I ran Ridge Grapplers right after their release and was not impressed. I feel like people buy them because it's the cool bro dude tire and have to justify their purchase with only 2k miles and say they are the best ever. I run Trail Grapplers on my current Tundra and with 24k miles on them at half life I love them and if I decide not to get another set when the time comes the Toyo AT3 will be the only other consideration. Oh and the 4runner has 12k on them and hasn't even passed the wear bars on top of the tread. Rain performance? Damn good hell that's their big marketing hype along with 3 peak mountain snow rating and I totally agree with it.

Yup I thought you were in Arizona not Arkansas sorry. And yes the at2 and the nitto terra suck in rain. Falken are so hooked up. Guess I’m picky but I can’t stand a slip, Or fear of standing water.
Neighbor hated his toyo at 2 and my dad hated his terra grapplers. They are both business minded guys and they both replaced before necessary due to poor rain performance.

For what it is worth after extensive research, my next tire will be a Cooper AT3 XLT.
My 2014 came with 285/55/20 KOs, and I replaced them with 275/60/20 KO2s.
Both nice tires, ride a bit rough, but I've never had a flat, knock on wood.

But my KO2s are getting louder by the day.
Another 5K miles and I'll be getting the 275/60/20 Cooper AT3 XLT.

From past experience, I wouldn't buy any Firestone tire...

You will probably never have a flat with a triple ply sidewall tire...
Thanks for the Firestone input. What was bad about your experience? Did you have a Ford Exploder? I had a bad experience with Bridgestone so I guess they’re kinda the same.

I think the Cooper is overrated on this site. It’s honestly the same tread they’ve had for years with a new sidewall design.

I really test my shit too so I’m not making my experiences up haha. And I’ve seen a few comments about having to warranty coopers. And BFG, but they get a pass from
    Me because they’re triple ply.

It’s just the go to tire for this site. Sure it’s a great tire, but I think it’s a modified highway tread. Probably good for 99 percent of the uses around here. I think ide shred it and not be happy with the mid rain or snow performance compared to my Falken. Only time my Falken have let loose yet was going down a hill in wet snow and I hit the brakes instead of gearing down. My mistake. They just have so much grip. 85268B45-68D9-43F7-B139-1899FBA14D05.jpg609EB200-3CBB-4E98-AF69-1F266D6E88B5.jpg 67FD2595-57D4-4A85-B39C-EBA4D3998F4C.jpgA3147819-12A3-49E8-9AA2-E9A7E35D7398.jpg
Those squiggle sipes, everyone is trying to copy them because they’re brilliant. 20k miles and still 13/32”

After extensive research I bought a set of Firestone Destination XTs for my Tacoma last month. I was moving away from my KO2 and more focused on improving towing mpgs and less on off road performance. I figure the XTs were a good balance for me.

Too soon to tell and we just decided to sell the Taco and get a Tundra.

I do think I’d get an mpg and some time under my 1/4 mile drag time with the Cooper though.

I think you are bored tonight and felt like posting a Firestone tire rant on more than one thread.
You like Firestone tires, we get it..

You think Coopers are over rated and I think Firestone tires stink..
    So there is that..

I like my Falken for sure. That’s what I’m running. I think the coopers are probably great too. Just think i could predict the trade offs after 20k with the Falken. The coopers would be nice running down the interstate. The Falken are secure and heavy duty, and apparently pricey now days. Yup why’s it mater how much I post? I have no life. Thought that was the point to of the forums.shared experiences And my truck is getting bumpers so I miss it and am obsessing. You caught me.

There's no doubt that you are very satisfied with your tires and that's great but from forum experience including this one and a couple bass boat and fishing forums when these types of threads are started (What's the best ....) the responses are always guys pumping up what they have. I am one who digs through reviews from as many vendor sites as possible and try to weed out the "I've had .... for two weeks and it's the best ever" and focus on the "I've been using....for five years now and after trying..., ..., and ... this is the best I've found".

And you are pushing a tire that’s been around for a year? With most of the reviews about its road manners I can find.
I’ve had the falken for over 20k miles. And I’ve used them in every possible situation I could. I posted pics of where they’ve been. I have even been to Arkansas with them.
No flats. Even wear. Went on a 4K mile cross country trip. Wheeled them with a camper on. They’re great. Not sure why you’d discount my experience. Think if you dig this is the common Falken Wildpeak experience. They are excellent. Honestly I obsess about tires and not sure I’ll be able to afford these again.
    They’re now running 333 per corner.39833DE6-8350-4EB9-B24D-A9860BDCEA2C.jpgArkansas

I thought we were here to talk trucks. Don’t think I’ve contradicted myself or been off base in any of these posts. I’m just obsessed with the tundra platform and love rubber. Don’t get me started on mountain bike tires. Spend hundreds of dollars a year on those.

I'm not discounting your experience in no shape or form and again I see that you are very satisfied with your tire choice which is all that matters. My point was basically anytime a "What should I get" thread is started, no matter what product is in question, all the responses are recommending what that poster has. I try not to engage in such threads but sometimes I do just like this one where I recommend the Toyo AT3. Couple  and I can get chatty online.

Yeah no worries. I agree the at3 are on the short list. Good looking tire. I’m honestly interested in peoples experiences with different all terrain tires. It’s the part of the truck that actually hits the ground. And I’m always chatty. At least I’m not talking about my Tinder dates tonight :monocle: so you know I haven’t had too many. Just up

And if we weren’t being so judgmental it’s probably good for the forum to have some chatty people, correct? I guess I can be the guy people like to hate on tonight :)
It’s ok my wife is a lesbian and probably why I’m here over sharing.
