Im sure there are plenty of households with 2 kids in need of a truck who would consider using it as a down payment.

If this was a Hylander or Prius we'd if seen press on it a year in advance. Just sucks how Toyota doesn't seem to care about creating a buzz. Keeping this close to the chest is not a smart play IMO. If it's really going to be on the lot by Sept 2021, you should be able to order it in July right? That's ~4 months.

If it was me I'd be looking to fire someone over this. This truck should be EVERYWHERE IN THE NEWS by now.

Thing is right from the start Dec 2021 was the likely release date to be on the lots - and with production delays that could very well be pushed into 2022 now. And add in any other year and they would have put it out at the Chicago auto show in February, but that of course has been delayed with no official date set as of yet.

This will be a true 2022 vehicle. Not this “it came out in 2021 but we’re calling it a 2022” crap.

The suggestion is that the Titan gets better avg MPG than a Tundra, as shown by the users of Fuelly.

Next year models generally start selling in Sept-Oct, so it wouldn't be odd to see the 2022 around then. Even if they did, it wouldn't be unprecedented. You guys are getting a bit stif crazy. DOn't chew your fingers off ok? ;-) ;-)

The difference is that all Tundras have the tow package standard. The tow package for the Titan is an option and adds weight. I had an '06 4x4 with the tow package and a good friend of mine had a 4x2 with no tow package. I could get about 13-14 mixed driving while he consistently hit 19-20. If the mix of the Titans in the Fuelly stats were 50-50, it would almost account for that number. My Tundra gets significantly better mileage than my Titan ever did, and my driving has not changed.

The current Tundra rarely loses in apples to apples comparisons...except for the missing Trans cooler the last 3 model years...that's just f'ed up in a vehicle with a 4.30 rear axle.

I got only 1mpg average better in my 5.0 f150 as I did in my tundra. Only place it did way better was highway going 70. I could get low 20s vs 15-16 in my tundra.

Well, it’s a good thing you have absolutely nothing to do with the hiring, and firing practices of Toyota. You sound kind of ridiculous saying you’d fire someone because a company hasn’t released the details of their upcoming next-generation vehicle that was in the testing phase when a global pandemic broke out, which shut down most of their manufacturing plants, preventing them from getting ahead of the game with re-tooling - and likely putting them behind setting up the final product, and testing it.

I’m not Toyota apologist, but it seems completely understandable that they may be months, if not a year behind - and are trying to make sure everything is right before they over-promise.

I would agree with the exception that the details have been released, but to dealers only. And release dates have been set (Sept) but to dealers only.

Toyota is losing even more market share by this lack of early advertising strategy. This thing should of been hyped. Like the Jeep 392 teaser before the Bronco announcement. Like the Dodge TRX. Toyota is making a marketing mistake and I think it's pretty obvious.

So yes I would fire the person responsible for making my "flagship" release of 2021 INVISIBLE to everyone truck shopping this year that's not an already established Tundra fan.

Disagree. I like the covid theory, that may have messed up their plans. It would be even worse to 'release' something half-baked.

Better to just let this play out. If it's a solid product it will sell itself, like all Toyotas.

    What information have dealers received?

Because I’m pretty sure it’s nothing. Most dealers get their information at the same time we do, but they can make these ambiguous websites to make you think they have first dibs info on it so you’ll go to them once the info comes out - but I guarantee you that none of them have any solid details.

If MPG is the only thing you want to watch, then move on - the Tundra does not complete. But, as has been stated on this forum several times by myself and others, when you compare the total cost of ownership, especially including non-maintenance costs, the Tundra comes out on top BY FAR. All those gimmicks used to increase mileage come at a cost.

Same. *IF* I babied my '13 F150 when I first got it, I could get 17 or 18, just like my Tundra. Fast forward a few years, when it didn't matter *WHAT* I did - I got 15.5, period, and that's if I drove like grandma was in the backseat with a pot of beans.

Meanwhile, I pretty much drive my Tundra like I stole it 1/2 the time (like most of us do), and I average about 17.5 - 18 MPG on the interstate, and 15 to 15.5 in town (I live in the Ozarks, so you have to contend with cities/towns *and* hills @ the same time).

I have no doubt (and PLEASE do not do this, Toyota) that if they tried all the stuff (cylinder deactivation, gearing down, aluminum side panels, etc.) the competition does, they'd be right there with them.....but considering we're only usually about 1-2MPG behind (this is based solely on my experience, of course), I'm pretty damn happy with what I get.

Bad mpg and few to no repairs is cheaper than better mpg and consistent repairs, especially when the truck is cheaper to begin with.

Ok, To each their own. My point is about their space in the market, not reliability. You can advertise and tease your release without losing quality.

So all the talk about dealer meetings taking place with sharing specs, and the overall "World beater" headlines were just fake news by shoddy websites?

Got it  Even without solid details given to the dealers, they have more info than the public. At this point 4 months out. WHY? How the heck does that help your assault on Ford and Chevy's marketshare in this segment?

I can spot a mistake and lots of companies make mistakes. Toyota is not infallible.

Only way I see myself leaving my 19 is if this V8 is real and the interior is upgraded significantly.

I agree. The point of my post was in reference to the other post trying to prove that the Titan was getting better mileage. Isn't that a known fact?

I'm still confused why you're stuck on this September release date? The info we've gotten in picture form from those dealer meetings show late Q4 for the Tundra. And as for dealers hiding stuff, there are a lot of us on here who have hounded our dealers and it's pretty consistent across the board the only info they have is no more V8. You'd think if they knew more somewhere someone would let it slip, but we can't even get a crewmax 6.5' bed confirmed and we have the pictures that confirm it's being tested. I was always confused at the 10 month lead time from release to sale date, something like 4 months makes a lot more sense - 10 months lets the hype die down while 4 months you can be fresh enough in everyone's mind. So that would put the release in the July to September range, which will also likely coincide with journalists being on site for the initial release as well.
