sun’s out so, i was just outside making a little inspection on the winch line as it’s been wound up all winter. also wanted to try and figure out what got it stuck when i tried to help the neighbor during snowmageddon.

it’s dated 2016 and color is a bit faded but most of it appears in good shape. there are a couple of spots at the eyelet (metal) that i need to keep an eye on. looks like stress area/rub while it’s spooled up.

what’s the lifespan on synthetic line?

Mine is 9 years and going strong.

I can't remember if you park your bad ass truck in a garage? When synthetic rope is exposed to UV, it will degrade faster. I have seen people make plastic "covers" from something that fit tightly around the drum to protect the rope from the elements.

Mine just broke first time trying to use it on my smittybilt x20. I now have a warn winch sitting in my garage that I’m waiting to install. It came with the spydura rope. No comment on it yet, but I don’t trust the x20 anymore.

    nice one. you’re funny. 1945 garage + tundra on 35s = no f’ing way.

winch is down in the bumper. the nylon wrap on the last 10’ or so covers the entire line when it’s wound up. there isn’t any rope showing to daylight.

most of the line looks okay. just a few small frays at the eyelet. i’ll take a pic later.

Use the expensive sailing rope made with Aramid and kevlar fibers. No issue with UV on the sailboats. It actually might be too strong and not have any stretch. This is what I use on my winch

To properly check this line you have to look how the inside of it looks. Check out Sampson Rope for more information on it
