They can if they want. It's way more work and they most likely will go hit the easy trucks.

Those little handheld sawzalls go through the thin metal of an exhaust pipe like hot butter. They can cut out your cats in under a minute.

In contrast, drilling just a single hole in a 3/16” steel plate takes a lot more time. I had to drill two holes in a plate to get it to mount up with another plate of a different manufacturer. Broke a carbide tipped drill bit because I was trying to go too fast. A small battery powered sawzall has no chance with 3/16” steel or 1/4” aluminum.

    More than a few.....
If they have infinite time to work on your truck, nothing will stop them. You just have to make it as hard as possible. Valhalla's Shield skid plates with security bolts where you can will make it next to impossible to make a quick grab. they want to hit you and leave in less than 2 minutes. They see the armored belly of your truck, and theyll move to your neighbors house. You can also weld the cats to your frame or set up a bicycle vibration alarm on your exhaust pipes. The saw will vibrate the crap out of the pipes and set off the vibration alarm.

clamp this baby on your tailpipe. Its remote operated. I may take this off my Ebike and put it on the exhaust.

Did your insurance replace it with OEM cats or aftermarkets? Are you guys having trouble the insurance cover the costs of replacing the cats, especially when your truck is still under warranty and it has low miles??

Warranty won't cover stolen property. The big insurance companies usually won't give you trouble for filing a claim if you have the proper coverage.

Insurance can’t dictate what it’s replaced with, but the shop you take it to will. Go to a reputable shop that you know will use OEM.

State Farm will only cover for aftermarket for me apparently. Currently fighting it as my truck is still under warranty. They estimated half what my dealer estimated for OEM parts. After paying the $500 deductible, the left over of $1900 isn't even enough to cover the buying of stock parts so i can install myself.

Interesting, although etching a license plate number on them is going to nothing to prevent theft.

Exactly. The only defense is to park inside of the garage all of the time. The crewmax is 229" long and my garage is 230" long. Yippie

I ran into these pipes for replacement as suggested by the insurance company to my dealer. I have a choice to wait it out for 3-4 weeks (or having this estimate extend to 2 months) or having this in a few days in my truck. https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinf...82zpfH/13b2QIweSTlU3rBd9Iq4c23TtB8l1ojwZraJJ/

They quoted me Wagner but seems like the saem company as the model # is the same. I hear Wagner is big. The ponly problem is that only the cat body is stainless and the piping is aluminized steel. I believe all exhaust is stainless steel on our trucks

This is solid advice, thank you. Seems like the numbers are steadily climbing everywhere. Unreal. I get the weekly law enforcement update and there’s 5-15 every week in my little town—that’s within the city limits. Don't know what the numbers are like in the adjacent towns or in the county, but even if there’s only a few more, that’s A LOT of damage being done to vehicles every week. I have to park in an alley behind my house, which makes it a prime target. I got the DE on already and have the Valhalla’s shield on order because holy crap they’re even hitting the old rigs like mine.

One additional thing I’m doing to deal with this BS is that I got a Lorex surveillance system (pretty reasonably priced on sale from Costco) and I’m about halfway through the installation. The installation and set up is way more involved than people think so this might be a related topic for discussion on the larger issue of theft deterrence. I’ll have a camera pointed directly at my truck in the alley, so it’s one more measure to foil the crooks. I realize video surveillance isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but in case there’s someone out there with questions or ideas, thought I would mention it.

This just hapoened to me last night. I live in an apartment in a relatively small town 30 miles south of Dallas. They got both cats and cut some wiring. I’m guessing the wiring is for the O2 sensors. I didn’t think to check the fuel lines, but I’ll go out and check them in a bit.

It sucks, but I guess it could always be worse, like a stolen Tundra or a home break-in while you and the family are asleep.

Just checked and the brake lines look intact as do their heat shield liners.
