Recently purchased a new car for the wife. During signing we were offered to purchase Cilajet interior/exterior coating protection. They couldn't tell me much more other than it's an aircraft approved coating that work similar to ceramic coatings.

Anyone on here have any experience with Cilajet and would you recommend it or just do a ceramic coating?

Never heard of it. How long does it last and what did they want to charge you for it?

Didnt say how long it lasted but wanted $950 for a 2021 Kia Sorrento (similar to the size of the new style highlander)

32 years in airline maintenance and have never heard of airlines "ceramic coating" their jets. Sounds like a gimmick to me, but I'll dig into it out of my own curiosity.

    Check out this link. https://www.cilajet.com/faq/

When I get to work tonight, I'll try to find the Boeing Specs in the Boeing manuals. I called them and spoke to Mariah; she said she would email me those specs. So, when I get them, I'll post them here or call B#llSh!t.

Haven’t heard of the brand, but I’d always advise to steer clear of any dealership coating. I won’t even let them wash one when I buy it.

Does that include paint correction? If not I think they are asking for too much for something they don't know how long it will last.

Off the shelf consumer grade ceramic coatings last a year minimum; on the high end the better ones last 3+ years. You can probably find an installer that will include paint correction for close to that price but with the guarantee that comes with the better known product.

When I bought my daughter’s Honda, the price sheet showed a charge of I think 500.00 for something I didn’t recognize. I asked the salesman, he said it was a paint protect and that would last years, keep the car clean, and protect from scratches. He said they put it on all their vehicles so it was always included in the price. Ignoring the part about scratches, I asked him if it was “one of those ceramic coatings I’d heard about”.
He said yes, that was what it was. I poured some water on it, and the water just sat there. I had him remove the charge.

I agree with most of the comments here about staying away and it being a gimmick. First time I had heard of it and was mainly curious if anyone else on here had heard and knew any info. Hopefully @MJoeP can get back to us with some actual info and specs. There's a brochure I have at my house I'll post it up when I can.

    Here's the brochure

    Boeing spec D6-17487 Rev R
    Airbus spec AIMS09-00-002 Issue 3
    AMS spec 1650C

This can all be a bunch of BS for all I know

I'll look that up when I get to work. The salesman emailed me this. He provided a paper (attached) with the same spec number, but no spec. I'll look it all up tonight.

    These are my opinions.

Boeing "SPEC" as they call it is NOT a spec. It is a document (first clue is it starts with D or D6), if put in a binder, would be 8 to 12 inches thick. Simply it lists acceptable items, sealants, chemicals, etc that can be used on Boeing aircraft.

There are a ton of companies claiming conformity to this so called spec:
    https://www.google.com/search?q=boe...57j33i299l2.5087j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

So, in my opinion, this is another company trying to gain sales by throwing out B#LLSH!T info to make their product sound superior to their competitors. Like "aircraft grade aluminum", ever hear that one? WTF is "aircraft grade aluminum"? Aluminum is aluminum. Typically aircraft use specified aluminum like 2024T3 or 2024T6 in different thicknesses. Anyone can buy it and use it. It is not aircraft grade.

I'll add more and try to quote the exact document "D6", or picture it when I get to it in the manual.

My suggestion: If you want superior coating for your car, look at studies like this one. The proof is in the pudding.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XnY-exrfGw&t=388s

Of particular interest I did find, in the list of hits in the Google search above, where Cessna folks are slamming Simple Green's use of the same so-called "spec". In particular, read post the 4th or 5th post from the top. It says pretty much what I would say about it.

    From the following link:
it became apparent that your company is marketing the new product as one worthy of aircraft use, and supporting evidence of airworthiness is offered on your company website in the form of claims that the product meets Boeing Spec. D6-17487P. This type of statement, to the casual observer, appears to be a form of "endorsement" by the Boeing company, and would thereby carry great weight with the ordinary aircraft owner. I'm sure that fact was in the mind of your company's marketing department when the ad was posted at your company's website.

Boeing's Document - NOT a spec and Cilajet is no where in this document.
    cilajet_Nope.jpg

LAST EDIT: SMI, Inc. (Scientific Material International, Inc) provided paperwork saying it conforms to Boeing's criteria as outlined in their Document which Cilajet claims is a specification. So I guess the real question here is "who is SMI, Inc." and are they qualified to say that the criteria meets Boeing's requirements and does Boeing endorse them or use them for testing? Then Cilajet makes claims that they are "TESTED AND PROVEN FOR COMMERCIAL AIRCRAFT" on their brochure, which as in the quote from the Cessna page above says, appears to indicate Boeing endorses their product. I wonder what Boeing would say to that? Creative marketing in my opinion. There are a bunch of posts for different types of cleaners with the identical type "certificate" from SMI, Inc. Some posts attach their SMI cert. as a .pdf . So, the above is all I can come up with. Cilajet most likely meets the requirements that were certified by SMI (were they Boeing's specs?) due to their proof of SMI certificate. Is their product good? Subjective at best. I would have to compare it to other products. For me, one of the best ones in the video shown above would be my pic. Again, for me, for a dealer to sell me any kind of protective coating, is a big NOPE. I'll find a trusted source elsewhere.

Sorry if that got a little long winded!

Well.....the video linked in the post above lead to this new video.

This video shows the different products at 1yr 8 months. Brand loyalty causes me to be really interested in XPel Fusion CC (XPEL protective plastic on my Motorcycle), or Drive Victory 9H because they're close to home (Dallas).

And here is the pudding I spoke of "proof is in the pudding".

Thanks for your efforts. Lots of great information! That video is a great endorsement for Griots 3-in-1 though.

Thanks War Machine. The creator of the Sealants Test video has a followup video where he tested the products at the 2 year 6 month mark (not sure if it is the same hood and products in the video above. I quickly glanced at it and fast forwarded through a bunch of it) . There are some interesting results and if it is the same hood and products as above, Xpel and Drive Victory 9H are no where in the running at that point.

It’s a absolute scam. I have worked for dealerships for 20 years selling this and other products. It is just a polymer wax that takes 30 minutes to put on. They wash the car apply a wax like paste, wipe it off and done. You are paying for the warranty but the actual product does not last at all. So if you want your protection do it yourself with $20 worth of polymer or ceramic wax, if you want to pay $500-$1000 for the warranty that comes with it that’s your choice but it’s an absolute rip off it cost the dealer $35 and the labor for a guys 1 hour of time.
