Yep, but with complete owner's brain transplant, it's the only way to be sure :anonymous:

I don't know how many times I've heard " I just put it in 4lo, cause I'm driving slow", whenever there's 1" of snow on the ground here.

I have multiple co-workers that thought low meant, low speed, as in if you need 4WD but are going to drive slowly. Then they proceed to drive in 4lo on their entire drive home.

I think it makes an excellent case that a trans cooler is needed. It should be presented as evidence in the upcoming lawsuit being filed by another member here.

Yeah, but it shows how important a cool transmission is.

Your honor, this is a classic example of revving your engine to 50K rpm and overheating the transmission fluid.

Judge: the court finds for the plaintiff. Heavy fines and free trans coolers for all.

The driver was using the low gear range in 4WD, the failure point was predictably the transfer case. Despite towing, attempting to drive at any speed that would be required on any road, will most certainly peg it in 4lo. I was feeling cute and thought I'd make the post title about the trans cooler as I knew it would both get views and is a known point of contention here, ironically.

None the less, this failure has nothing to due with a transmission cooler.

Well, he was just dropping it at the dealer for an oil change, he'll really have a heart attack when he gets the bill.

Also, FWIW the "math" mentioned in the article does not hold up on an AT app.

The engine could be money shifted to such an RPM in a manual, but is electronically limited to redline in an auto. Despite their estimate, the destroyed torque converter, its an auto and was likely just pegged to redline, not 50k RPMs. There's no way to force a downshift that would back propel the engine to that speed, the auto would just beep at you.

Although, I'd love to see someone say with a straight face, to a judge, that the failure was from cooling and not the ol' casual " I was coasting at 50k RPM".

Judge would probably suggest the old driver mod.
