Even when the V6 has 40 more HP and Torque? I'd rather have the HP and Torque

In my case, yep. Such was the case in 2013 when I bought my F150 with the 5.0L. I had tons of Ecoboost fanboys give me crap for buying one.

I gave them crap right back when a few of them had to have short block replacements for their Ecoboosts with misshapen cylinders, and *all* of them had to have brake work done due to a recall. :) I just need it to be able to do what I need it to do.

I mean, don't get me wrong - I'd LOVE more HP/TQ. But it's not like this isn't a powerful truck already. Once it's proven itself to have the same vaunted Toyota reliability, sign me up; but I've been bitten too much to just hand over money because 'more features/more power!' I mean, F150's are like that now....and we're seeing in the news what the tradeoff is (rust on the undercarriage). Well, one of the tradeoffs. LOL

Did the 5.0 and the 3.5EB have different brakes in 2013?

For me it's the mileage with the power. I drive over a 1000 miles a week just going back and forth to my girlfriends, not to mention driving her mom to Doctors, and driving around to do photo shoots, even though the Tundra gets slightly better mpg than my old F-150, I could use 20+ mpg. If I could get that in a reliable proven V-8 and hopefully they would up the HP, then I would be like F the V-6 too.

Nope, not initially, although in general it's got squat to do with Toyota. I wouldn't trust the first year of *ANY* major model remake, because I've had issues with multiple vehicles over the years, and by far the biggest issues have always been on the vehicles that were the first year of a major model remake.

(That, and I'm still paying off my truck; and we need to renovate our kitchen; and wife wants a new Highlander after my truck is paid off; etc.)

Well, THAT'S an entirely different scenario, and I totally understand that. I drive about 150 to 200 miles a week; and while I do tow, I don't (usually) tow that heavy *or* that far. As such, what I've got now is far better than my last truck, and more than enough for what I need. If I drove those kinds of miles weekly you bet I'd be more interested in MPG.

And don't get me wrong - I've mentioned tons of times that if they release the new truck, and it gets great MPG like rumors say, I'll have no issues telling them to take my money. LOL But you know the saying - once bitten, twice shy. It's not that I don't trust Toyota; it's just that one tends to be careful after having been bitten, period. I'll be one hell of a lot quicker to jump on Toyota's bandwagon than I EVER was to jump on Ford's, that is for damn sure. LOL

Problem is.. it is broke. My Camry has about the same payload capacity that my Tundra does.

I had 1200lbs of wood pellets in my Tundra and could barely tell they where back there. If I put 1200lbs in my Camry there's going to be a problem. Sure like to know how they come up with some of the payload numbers.

Really? I guess it's about the same if that difference is minimal to you

Go weigh your truck and report back. My 2020 Tundra SR5 4X4 with a few accessories and a full tank of fuel came out around 800lbs.

Go weigh my truck? Because it's that simple to just go weigh it? Also, i was in agreement with you and showing what the payload of the camry is vs the payload of the tundra and showing that it is not similar.

But the payload of the Camry is similar. Once you add just a few accessories and fill the 38 gallon tank the Tundra's payload just sucks. My door says around 1250lbs for payload but in reality its lower. Weigh your truck then subtract it from the GVWR from your decal and get ready for a disappointment.

Yeah its pretty simply to get a weight. CAT scales are everywhere. I actually weighted mine at the local waste distribution center.

You will also be AMAZED at the turbo repair bill when the turbos start puking their guts. 2300 per side if I remember correctly so 4600 total?

considering that my Tundra payload is 1163 (by door sticker) and my Camry is 925, yep, they are within 238lbs of each other. That's close in most peoples estimation, especially when you consider the difference in vehicles.

The Camry is not designed for the load to be all on the back end but primarily in the passenger compartment. The rear suspension is stiffer in the Tundra, but the overall payload (on my vehicles) are within 238lbs of each other. Thats negligible.
I had 15 bags of Sakrete (1200lbs) in the rear of my SR5 and I could definitely tell it was there, and it was mainly over the rear axle. Of course, last time I carried a heavy load was in the '96 F-250, and that thing would barely squat with a bed full of green red oak loaded in it. My '99 F-250 with the same load was a different matter - their change to make the ride "smoother" also caused more rear squat with similar load. Of course the '96 did ride like the proverbial chuck wagon.

That is close. Guess the numbers i found on google aren't accurate. Pretty wild.

Payload = GVWR - curb weight

GVWR of the most Tundras is 7200 lbs. But most of them weigh close to 6000 lbs.

Oops, got my GVWR number ass backwards.
My truck was around 6.4K with the hard tonneau, full take of fuel, spray in bed liner and running boards. You could eat up all you payload easily on a Tundra with heavy bumpers, skid plates and a truck cap.

Well 12k isn't really that impressive either. I have exceeded that with my 2021.

Crazy isn’t it? I looked at the wife’s 17 4runner payload and it’s like 50# more than the tundra. Crazy. Almost took that to get 1000lbs of bagged gravel...

I came from a 4runner to a tundra and it's absolutely insane they're rated that close together. The 4runner has really soft springs in it. When I hooked my boat up it squatted it about 2". The tundra doesn't move. I think the tundras payload and towing rating is just Toyota being Toyota and erring on the side of caution.
Everyone that's got one knows it'll haul a hell of alot more than it's rated for and not be anywhere near unsafe

Yeah probably. I also have the 1794 which has the lowest payload of them all. It’s still enough for 3 adults and 100lbs in dogs and a 500-600 lb hitch weight trailer. But that’s right at max. Current camping trailer is 300 hitch so plenty of room for now. Not sure how people here are towing 7000+ trailers with a family though. Has got to be over the payload.

Your actual loaded hitch weight is 300 lbs, confirmed with a scale? Which trailer do you have?

That's undoubtedly the dry weight, without battery, propane or gear.
