No, I don't think there ever is a time to trade a Tundra for a 5.3 GM 1500. A 6.2 maybe, but even then...

I used to have a Suburban 5.3L with AFM. Never really saw any significant improvements - smoke and mirrors if you ask me!

I went from the GM 6.2 (no AFM & DFM) to the Toyota 5.7

I don't notice much of a difference tbh but the 6.2 was a crewcab and my 5.7 is a RCSB

The GM LS engines are great
its everything else around them that don't last :(

I wasn't sure aboit the 6.2. Had a 5.3 in a previous Doublecab Sierra, and while it never gave me any problems it never felt like enough engine for that truck. Not sure why GM didn't stick with the tried and true 350 (5.7).

You're right though, I've never had a GM powertrain give me any major problems, but the rest of the vehicle...

They probably oughta leave it off. I know of literally no one IRL who owns a Silverado/Sierra who has NOT had AFM/DFM deactivated almost as soon as they buy the truck.

Will be funny when the recalculated fuel economy isn’t different enough to even change the sticker. But by golly...... it sure is a neato system!

I had an 11 Sierra 6.2 crew cab 2wd prior that I traded in for my 18 5.7 CM 4wd tundra. The tundra “feels” faster off the line but the Sierra was a faster truck without a doubt. The mid range to top end on the 6.2 would gaptize the Tundra.

Had a ‘15 Silverado with the 5.3L. Being an LS1 variant, it loved the revs. Gearing and torque in the Tundra is much better for a truck. I didn’t personally ever have issues with that truck but I only had it a few years. Brother in law has a ‘18 Silverado and he has already had to replace the transmission. Granted he beats that thing to shit and tows a TT thousands of miles a year for work.

My brother figures 5.3 is enough motor for him but I don't think he's tried hauling a quad with his 2019 SLT CC standard bed, though he has done it with his 2016 WT RCLB at work.

That's when they lost me. The old all iron SBC was a far better engine.

Don’t think in the half ton world I would buy anything but a Tundra. However I’d look at a GMC or a Ram if I ever step up to a 3/4 or 1 ton.

Just rolled over 140k on our Yukon XL. It has a couple of quirks I’ve been able to stay on top of, but no major issues. It’s no Toyota, but it has been a great vehicle for my wife. Drinks far less oil since disabling the AFM.

I’ve never owned one, got a couple of family members with Ram trucks. My Father in law has had extremely good luck with his, its an 2010 I believe. Has towed a big camper with this truck all over the states probably has over 150K on it with no major issues.

All i know is i eventually will have to buy a bigger truck when I upgrade to a bigger camper, I won’t go back to Ford due to have so many issues with my Expedition and last F150. That only leaves GM and RAM. If Toyota made a 3/4 ton I would be in it tomorrow! I love my Tundra.

In terms of the 3/4 Ton and up HD trucks. Ford is the far superior vehicle to have.

RAM you just want the cummins because the truck around it has so many gremlins in it you'd chew nails to get over the frustration of having it.

GM HD's are ok, they ride nice, but thats about it. The allison trans is not all that it is made out to be and unless you get a high trim the interiors are cheap and rough. Since the truck came out with soft touch interiors I don't know how we lived without them.

So much truth. I just traded in my 2007 Sierra because it seemed like everything was headed in a bad direction. It had body rust. The body control module was going out. It burned oil as fast as it burned gas. It was time to go. So I bought a Tundra that's 5 years older and actually works.

ETA: it did get better gas mileage than my Tundra.

I owned a 2011 Silverado Crew LTZ and it had the AFM and when I would be on the highway, I would average 21-22 miles per gallon. My 2017 Tundra Crew averages like 16 miles per gallon. I miss my MPG's in the Silverado. I like my Tundra, but when I am ready for my next truck in a year or two, I will be looking at the Silverado ago. To be perfectly honest, the only reason I am in the Tundra is the fact when I was truck shopping, I checked out the Silverado and the current production back in December 2016 had screwed up the interior so badly, it wasn't even funny. They had taken about 5 inches of space from the front row to put it in the back seat so passengers in the backseat would have more space. Only reason I didn't buy one being I am exceptionally tall and make it undriveable from the standpoint of the frame separating the front and backseat door would contort your left shoulder forward at a very uncomfortable angle even with the seats fully pushed back as far as they would go. Also I miss my BOSE system from the Chevy.

Again, don't get me wrong, I like my Tundra even though I have had more issued with this Platinum then I ever did with the Chevys. It does ride very smoothly, but at a cost and thanks to Biden, the fuel costs is going to go up and up.

That's what I had. The engine was good but everything else surrounding it was junk. Even the engine had a serious issue that could have grenaded it. Mine had the infamous "killer dowel pin". It's a relatively easy fix if you know about it.

For me its between the 2022 Tundra and a Cummins. Love my current 2019 Tundra, but I'd really like to have slightly better gas mileage, and the rear coil suspension is money on both.
