Hey guys, I spoke to the sales manager at my local dealer yesterday (3/13/21) and he said they were told that morning, right before I called, that the 2022’s are going to be on the lots this September. Obviously nothing has been confirmed so take it for what it’s worth. Anybody else hear anything different?

That would be the normal timeline for new model release, but.. there have been considerable shortages in the semiconductor production market and even 21s can be hard to find. I wouldnt be surprised if it was delayed.

Yeah Im happy I snagged mine in November, stock had just shot up and I was able to get a substantial discount. Actually bought it on Black Friday, I know people say thats not a really anything special when it comes to car deals, but I didnt have to haggle and with Toyotas 2k off and the dealer discounting it like 3k for the weekend it came out quite nice.

By on the lots do they mean:

    A. A single demo unit sitting in dealer showrooms off which they take pre-orders

    B. A vehicle consumers can buy and drive home that day.

Option a is "possible" by Sep 30. Option b is very unlikely.

The "chip supply shortage" news stories are still in my opinion alot of hype based on some degree of reality.

Yes, there are supply shortages for certain chips used in building new vehicles - resulting in slow downs and shut downs.

No, it is not impossible to buy a new vehicle - and you do not need to rush out and buy new for fear of them running out.

Some dealers/manufacturers are pushing this story HARD...the combination of more buyers in the market fueled by stimulus checks, a booming market, low interest and a positive economic outlook/job security along with cyclical demand for the latest and greatest in trucks and SUVs are fueling the market. It used to be top salesperson sold 25 units - now everyone is selling 1 a day.

Manufacturer's are doing 2 things to keep up with demand. First - they are reconfiguring vehicles to "remove" features that need the short supply chips - IE Ram and blinds spot on lower trims. Secondly, they are completing builds without the missing chips and then finishing them as parts become available.

Alot of the chip shortage is just makers over acquiring components to avoid supply chain disruption and to keep their competitors from getting needed components. Reality is these parts cost a small amount - and paying to keep up with demand is an easy call.
