    I just found the same thread. The F150 uses a replaceable rear cover that is bolted on. I've replaced a few of those when I use to own a Napa Autocare shop because of rust through but the covers are cheap and I've never seen a Ford diff rust through other than the cover but it also happened on GM and Dodge as well.
    Personally I've never seen a Toyota welded on cover rusted through but that likely happens on very old trucks that are never wash and are driven where a lot of road salt is used.

    Come to think of it but I thought the rear covers on the F150 are plastic now so no issues for the rust other than its ugly.
