Same here. I am an estimator/project manager for a site development contractor. I drive to work sites to check on progress. Company provides an allowance, and pay for gas and services, even car washes :) .

Sometimes going to work, often for weekend trips to Menards, up to the U.P., fishing, snowmobiling, family trips. This is my fun ride. DD for work is a Avalon Hybrid, comfortable and 44-45mpg. Living 2 extremes but with gas at $1.47/gallon I could drive the truck to work and still not spend much for gas.

    In time
Mine is my daily and couldn’t be happier with it. Although my drive is just 8 minutes. I do find it hard not to floor it as I’m coming up on the turn for work and blow right by that damn place but 6 days a week that’s what I do. I have hauled a rick of firewood one time in the bed(gently loaded) but other than that one time I use my 14 foot utility trailer and heap it full. Tundra doesn’t even know it’s back there. And of course the kids love to ride in daddy’s truck so I occasionally let them in. Lol

Drive to work (once a week). Otherwise, local every day transportation. When the weather is good, I ride my FJR to work.

I use mine for work and play. I am a plumber by trade and use it to haul my tools in my back and forth to the job site but trips to the beach as well.

Just for getting me to work. Just have to get there regardless of conditions so it helps to have a 4x4.

I honestly dont know why I have one. It mostly looks pretty while holding down the asphalt in front of my garage. Once in a while it transports my mountain bike to the trails and runs to HD for boards and such. Oh and the occasional beer run. I put about 3,500 miles a year on it. My work rig however gets about 25k to 30k per year. I cant be without a truck. I did one 6 month stint without and it dang near drove me completely goofy.

Ah. Sorry, just got the impression from your post that it was a truck that you got a lot of use out of.

This one, a 2000 SR5 (named Gojira) was purchase for three reasons:

Primary is to tow an enclosed trailer back and forth to gun shows. When we bought it, our cars were a 2007 Element and a 2006 Legacy - the Element's tow rating is 1500 lbs, and the trailer weighs 700... and got loaded up to the max (2000) with guns and ammo. And we live 6 miles from the highest road in Vermont - which we have to go over every time we drive east. The Element barely made it up and over. The Legacy was a very low sprung car, and I apparently was NOT supposed to put that trailer hitch on it. Anyway, it would bottom out.

Second: I decided I was too old to snowblow a 100 yard long driveway in a snowstorm on a lawn tractor. We put a RediPlow on it for that.

Third - we own a house, we have ducks and chickens, we have motorcycles in the barn. We needed something better than a utility trailer to go to the hardware store and lumber yard.

Gojira - old, loud, green, powerful, Japanese and he ROARS. SR5 w/TRD off-road package. Leer cap, aftermarket shocks and mufflers (Biltstein, I think), LED headlights and a JVC stereo. 2" lift, I'm told. Summer he wears Toyo Open Country sneakers; in winter he wears Blizzaks. Both 10 ply.

    20210216_092312.jpg

At the time, I was working in Marxachusetts 4 days a week and would commute down on Mondays and back on Thursdays. The Legacy got good mileage, and with studded snows was the equal of the Appalachian Gap even in a snowstorm. (Trust me on this one: even AWD or 4WD vehicles will NOT get over the Gap with "all season" radials when there's snow on the ground. In northern New England, they're more like three season radials. I've seen many try... but they don't make it. Too steep.)

Fast forward 4 years... the FGT is getting a bit old and rusty, and I no longer have a commute as I work at home most of the time. (I also haven't been able to do a gun show in a year, but hey. Hope springs eternal.) When I do need to go into the field, I need an utterly reliable vehicle. Gojira will get passed on to be a plow truck. Or a project; got a friend who's a mechanic who's interested in him.

So... this is the Bolo. 2018 SR5 w/TRD Off Road. Cooper Discovery AT3 4S tires. I've added a tool box in the bed for now; I'll sell it when I can spare $1700 for another Leer. Next week or the week after (I hope), he's getting a Boss HTX plow. I'll add some kind of backup/work lights to handle loading/unloading of the trailer in winter months when gun shows end after dark. I don't know if I'll add forward lights; he does pretty well with the factory LEDs even on these dark Vermont roads. (we don't have much in the way of streetlights up here...)

Retired so I use it to haul my golf clubs to the course and fishing poles to the creek. Overkill for sure...but I love it! First vehicle I ever bought without regard to need or practicality.

Have a Dodge Ram with a Hemi work truck so only drive my Tundra on the weekends. Probably don't even put 4,000 miles a year on it.
