Plus everyone I've ever met from Winnipeg knows it's the greatest place to live despite never having lived anywhere else. Admittedly, they're not as bad as Torontonians but still.

    Bah!

One thing I do know, I'd probably never be able to own the modest house and yard I do in Calgary, Ottawa or worse the Vancouver house market.

I've lived in Toronto & Ottawa, but was born and grew up vacationing in the Okanagan Valley (I'm a military brat). There are definitely more scenic and safer places to live than Winnipeg...but it's where I call home now. M&D retired here, met my wife and had our kids here.

That said, when we vacation, we try to head OUT of MB. This will be the first year in a LONG LONG time, we will be camping and visiting MB parks. We always head into ON for our camping or visit my brother and family in Calgary with a usual stay in Canmore for a few nights.

The one thing Winnipeger's (myself included) are know for......we're cheap!

I'm a city worker, so Covid or not, we get it.

We try and spend 3 weeks in the summer, camping with the kids. Canoeing, hiking, picking wild blueberries, water time, cooking outside.

I'd go stir crazy without vacation.

Dad was Air Force, 30+ years

As for me....I live in the middle of the country and was in the Naval Reserves. They had to fly us to Vancouver to do training exercises in a sub. o_O

When I was stationed aboard the USS HAMMERHEAD (SSN-663) we stopped at Halifax. While there I visited your submarines. All four of Canada's boats were in port at that time but one was operational. We had a great visit with the duty section onboard at that time.

    We traded Dolphins. Very cool!

I have heard the real estate is modestly priced there.

Actually, one of my former co-workers was telling me our company still owns the condo he sold to them when they relocated him from Winnipeg to Calgary because someone thought Winnipeg needed a whole ton of new condos that no one ever ended up buying. So good luck selling an older condo when there are new ones that have been for sale for years.

Another coworker had to sell his parents' house in Montreal after they passed away and he was saying he could sell his house here and buy 2 houses there.

You think they could understand newfies talking? Get 2 of them going and I understand 3 month olds easier. All I know is while you may not understand them you will end up laughing like crazy (and then they'll beat your ass with dried cod)

My brother was in the Army Reserves for a while but that was mostly a way to make some beer money while he was looking for a real job. Now he lives 300 km from the nearest base.
