Just got a quote for parts and labor for: New struts and coils replace upper and lower ball joints.
Shop says lots of labor on those upper ball joints 1500.
    Does this sound excessive?

Sounds about right. I paid 400$ in labor alone for a simple front coilover install.

(Coilovers were already set at height and all that was needed was install)

$1500 in labor?!?! Yeah. Excessive is one way to say that. I did my Gen1 ball joints on a mil base garage...they press out fairly easily with the correct tool.

At that rate, you're better off getting a whole new front end set up with UCA to boot!!

On the other hand, I just paid $500 for an entire 6" lift kit install...slightly more involved work.

I'd shop around if you can

Perhaps I should clarify. New struts, coils, upper and lower ball joints and an alignment and labor: $1500.
Thanks all for your responses so far.

That's a pretty good price, considering what brand parts they replace with.

Nothing radical. I trust my shop to use quality OEM parts. I was just curious. After 180000 miles and practically no repair costs I was out of the loop on labor and parts prices. I have had this paid off for 11 years so I guess I can spend a bit of coin on it.
