I just found out Rotella Gas Truck is being discontinued due to not selling as good as expected that’s why they’re doing so many rebates to diminish stock.
I’ve heard loud engine noise complaints with Mobil 1. So I’m considering Pennzoil Ultra Platinum or Amsoil.
I use to run Amsoil in everything when I lived in Vegas by their Distribution Center so it was easily available.
Does anybody run Pennzoil? I only ever hear Amsoil, Shell, Mobil 1 on here.

I hear ya...will post once I get it when I go in next month when I get the oil changed in my Corolla. I and they made sure it was for the 0w20...

No, I get that. TGMO will easily keep up with any of the big boys. I was referencing comments about people believing that used oil or the cheapest non certified dealership bulk motor oil. Some of those things may have happened and still can happen but I still feel those are rare occurrences...

I’m using the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and nothing bad or good to say here because I haven’t had any oil related issues or sounds.
I’m using the 5w20 because the 0w20 costs considerably more.

    Mobil 1 fan here.

Took the big block in my camaro apart recently. Insides looked brand new even with 20k miles on(doing a cam swap since it didn't match the new trans I installed).

That makes me sad as I've been using it in my 2020 since the first oil change and really think it is great oil. Was hoping to use this through the life of the truck, but I guess not. Now I gotta find another oil to use :frusty::annoyed:

I know Walmart Online has 0w-20 for $24.97/jug and do free shipping anything over $35.

I’ve been using it on my truck for the past 3 years and feel the same way. I’ll most likely try Pennzoil for a couple intervals.

Not selling good, but WHY isn't it selling good?

Any particular reason (other than seems like a goofy name for motor oil)?

Because there are SO MANY oils out there that I'm sure it's hard for a newer oil to be released and have an impact on the market, but they had to have known that going in. They've made the oil for the diesel trucks for a while now, so i'm assuming they thought they would have more brand recognition. IDK either way it sucks because it's been nothing but great for me in the 20k miles i've been running it.

Thanks. Last time I purchased, they were up to around $48 for the 0w20. I’m going to order now.

Yeah, they've been making the diesel oil for a long time. I actually thought all Rotella was only for diesels and wondered why guys were using diesel oil in Subaru WRX's. It wasn't until seeing the oil weight that I realized it was Rotella for gas engines, Hahaha.
Too bad they are discontinuing Rotella, it's good stuff. I used to buy it in the 5 gallon pails and use around 3/4 of a pail per oil change, those diesels sure use a lot of oil.
Luckily, Penzoil goes on sale around here a Lot, especially long weekends for some reason, I'll have to stock up next time.

Trying to decide at this point what to switch to if they actually do discontinue it. I'll believe it when I can't find it anywhere. Thinking of either going pennzoil ultra platinum or just the regular mobil-1 advanced fuel economy

I have been using Rotella in my Yamaha Grizzly for years. I really like it and truthfully it seemed to shift better with Rotella than Yamaha OEM oil or Amsoil for that matter (belt driven transmission).

It may take a little time to confirm, but I still find it hard to believe they would discontinue a proven product with a rep like Rotella T6 for diesels. I suspect the new products they developed in the Rotella brand are making a lot of confusion for the diesel operators, and the Rotella brand is preventing wide acceptance among light truck owners, bwdik. My first impression matched yours. Expensive screwup for Shell.

    Not enough....
Well that is disappointing. I'm a big fan of Rotella oils. I just starting using this in my Tundra....ugh. I used to run T5 syn-blend in my first gen, and I still run the full synthetic T6 5w-40 in my turbo LS. It is hands down the best, most economical oil that can handle built engines and turbos.

Maybe I'll go around and buy as much as I can find and just stock up my garage.

Realistically any half decent oil is good enough so long you don't try to run it for 50k miles.

Been running the diesel Rotella in dirt bikes for >15 years, dino and synthetic. Great stuff, price point allows for very frequent changes without breaking the bank. Also the Rotella dino has that very distinct smell. You could tell by just walking into someone's garage they had just used it.

That's awesome. I have a Yamaha Grizzly as well and never even thought of using it in an ATV, what weight would be best? I've just been getting screwed buying Yamaha oil all these years, Hahaha. Oh well, live, read and learn I guess.

Here’s what I have been using...yeah the Yamaha oil will probably be fine but this stuff is better. Make sure it the the JASO certificate because from what I understand that’s what makes it compatible with the Grizzlies.5C6F4801-B5BE-462C-8723-B0B4E3918D45.jpg418BD3ED-4DC2-45E7-A17C-CCC42B237B21.jpg

I understand this is just one guy, with one bottle of oil...so not a great sample size. But, still raises an eyebrow. The only other quart bottles I've ever cut to clean out like this are AMSoil. I don't recall seeing anything like this. Unfortunately, I used my gallon jugs of Rotella as my used oil containers on this last oil change. If I use Rotella again (still available), will be sure and look.

FYI i went to the youtube page and pennzoil actually responded to the video, which is pretty awesome to see, as follows:

Hello Bundy, Thank you for inviting us to respond. You are correct—the residue you identified at the bottom of your bottle is a very small amount of the additive package, which can drop out naturally during storage. While the residue is most likely to remain on the surface of the container, if it were to be poured into an engine during an oil change, it would not harm the engine. The motor oil in the bottle containing the residue continues to meet our quality standards and the specifications designated for Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic SAE 10W-30 Motor Oil, and delivers the performance outlined in our claims for this product. If you have further questions, please contact our Technical Services Hotline at 1-800-661-1771, Option 3. And thank you for using Pennzoil brand motor oils!

Off topic: I had a 1969 SS Chevelle, factory 396/325hp with factory Chambered Exhaust. I put in a 375hp solid lifter cam, Offenhauser High Rise Manifold, and a big Holley Double Pumper. Ran like a scalded dog, but did run hot. Also took out the column shifter and put in a Stick Model Hurst Dual-Gate shifter. Should never had sold it for the 1970.5 Z28 350/360hp.

But the worst is that in 1969 I could have bought from my friend a 1963 Split-Rear Window Corvette (red with black interior), 327/365hp, factory Lake Pipes, in excellent condition for $1900. I could not afford the insurance. I had the Chevelle at the time, we would go pick up our dates, meet up and swap cars for the night. 365hp and weighed 20 lbs less than an MGB. Damn I miss those days!
