Good Morning! Just picked up a 21 Limited DC last week, loving the truck so far!

I've done some research about the dash squeaking / rattling coming from the Window Clips, Exterior Cowling and other various areas. I'm getting a "rattle" when going over smaller size bumps coming from the middle of the dash near the middle speaker. I have isolated to that area because if I apply pressure on the middle of the dash in that area it stops. I removed the speaker last night and was able to dig around but wasn't sure where the rattle might be coming from? Does anyone have experience with rattle coming from this area? Appreciate any advice!

    Thanks
    Sam

Welcome, in my 20 I have a slight squeak above the speaker where the plastic meets the glass from the rear view mirror set up. Been trying to figure that out also.

Good luck with that speaker. I really haven’t broken the truck in yet and am hoping squeaks settle down, but dang they can be irritating. I can get it to stop when I put my hand on it and slide it gently.

2021- carry it back to the dealer and have them fix it. Hate a squeak/rattle in the interior. I have sold autos for that issue before when the problem could not be identified and fixed.

Have the same issue. My guess is that it happens because of the cold weather. It is annoying, but I dont think I want the dealership pulling off the entire dash trying to find this tiny rattle noise.

That's where i'm at - i'd rather try and locate myself than have dealership tear the truck apart. If it take the speaker out i can get underneath the dash, I just need to find some foam to press up within inside. Just was curious if anyone had any success with this.

Try tucking a strip of black foam between the dash and the windshield. That was the fix for 2 of my Toyota’s..

Mine has the same thing towards the passenger side of the dash. Took a little foam and stuck it in there, and it's gone. It happened more when it was cold, when it was hot and expanded it was fine. Not worth taking to the dealer to have them take the dash apart and get another rattle from broken clips etc. It never goes back together the same it seems.

I have a sound that I think is what you are describing. Very subtle too, but it's there. I plan to empty everything out of the glove box the next time I'm working on my sons driving and see if I can't find it. I swear it is in the middle of the dash, almost behind the stereo area.

I'm with you on not taking it to the dealer and having them tear through it, could come back worse than it went in is always my fear there. We went through that with my wife's Durango, 4 months and five headliners later, I finally fixed that problem myself. Upside was, we had a loaded Charger as a loaner with the fun V-8 to play with.

Mine did this as well. In mine it was the front defogger vent duct under the dash. The right side was not assembled correctly and rattled over small sharp bumps in the road, worse in the cold. You can see this condition by looking down into the vent from outside the windshield (sorry no pic). I tried getting to it from the front by removing some trim panels but none could give me access. Dealer had to pull the whole dash out. They did fix that problem but with a procedure that invasive they have created several more that we are still chasing. Wish I could go back in time and just live with what I had.

    Good luck!

That's exactly where mine seems to be coming from! I have tried putting some foam between the windshield and dash but still seems to be making the noise. I'm going to try to remove my center speaker and access that area and press some foam in there. Wish me luck!

I tried that but you can't get to it from the speaker hole. Best access was from the front, the trim that has the RH vent on it in front of the passenger seat above the glove box. However, the airbag and main HVAC duct makes it impossible to reach in a straight shot. If your arms were small enough maybe but I couldn't even get past my forearm. I was able to stuff some old T-shirts in there using a meter stick which did quiet it down but I was not OK with that long term. Hence my landing on getting the dealer to fix it "right", which they did. It was just the rest of the casualties in doing so that are driving me crazy now. New rattles at the shifter and A pillar, damaged radio bezel, damaged A pillar covers, etc, etc...

I have the same problem just started last month. It seems to be from center speaker but it could be dash cover hitting Front window. It's true if you press on the dash while driving the noise goes away. The sponge liner they have put in between the dash and the window is useless. I would try some thick vibration or sound tape. Toyota knows their Tundra's are rattle boxes but they have done nothing for over 15 years to correct the problem.

Well i thought noise was mostly gone bit drove on my gravel roads today and it was back. Tumbler can you tell from my defroster vent if it looks correct? No sure what to be looking for here. I also attached a photo from the under center speaker looking towards passenger side. Must find rattle!

Yours looks OK. Unfortunately I did not take pics of mine but when looking down into it from the windshield I could see the edge and the foam that is supposed to seal the duct to the upper panel near the end on the passenger side. Must be something else. Sorry man. Supper annoying these little rattles.

Late to the party... thought I'd chime in...

Just bought a new to me used 21 limited CM and took it apart to sound deaden.

Found a rats nest under the console(different story) which prompted me to pull the dash... luckily wires in tact.

Had the same rattle from the center dash under the speaker.

The good news.... I found a massive rattle... the bad news is that I had to pull the dash to find/fix it.

For my truck it is part 55990b.

Of all the insulated connectors and tight fits to kill rattles I was shocked to find this piece so loosely sitting on the duct below. When wiggling it, there is at least a half inch of play and it is free to move. I put a piece of foam on the plastic housing around the wiring harness and problem solved. Unfortunate part is I had the dash off to fix it. The 2021 is the replacement for my 08. Surprised after 15 years of production that this poor of a duct fit exists. Bad run of parts perhaps as my 08 is whisper quiet(the dash at least).

I haven't tried this... but if you pull the center speaker out... you may be able to access this part below or find some way of adding padding to the dash.

*** Note about rodents *** The cabin air intake behind the front cowl(plastic piece where the windshield wipers are) has a massive opening that rodents apparently entered, then chewed through the cabin air filter and entered the truck... shit everywhere they could(under center console and along door channels under the carpet/trim. If your truck sits or is outside, it may be worth adding a mesh cover over this opening to prevent infestion. My wife was thrilled. hah

    Good luck!
