My 2013 started leaking at 95k. It stopped when i switched back to oem Toyota oil from mobil 1 synthetic. My engine got quieter also. Don't ask me why lol!

Ok, so I know quite a bit about these trucks... but what is a cam tower? I’ve never heard of such? Is it a different word for valve cover gasket?

Its the gasket below the V/C, against the block. Its basically a cradle assembly that holds the cams in place.

2008 with 132k. Engine clean as whistle, DOHC heads so big I didn’t see the exact “cam towers” but I’ve been under the truck a couple times and she clean still.

You can't necessarily see any leaks from underneath. Look through your wheel well towards the back of the engine.
This was my leak that got fixed @18k.

So I ran mine to the dealership @ lunch today. Confirmed leak on the drivers side. They also found that the rear main seal was also leaking. Not real happy right now.

Toyota tech balanced wheels and had him look under it while he had it in the air, and he never said anything. But it was a somewhat less experienced guy. Jace (my Toyota tech) is a pro and he was out sick that day....

Is there a holy grail of number of miles or years one could get to safely say their truck won’t be impacted?

Mine had a leaking cam tower around 30k miles. It was repaired by Toyota and has not leaked for about 35k miles. The process for them to diagnose and repair was one big headache. I went into the dealership telling them that it was my cam tower (because of helpful people on this forum) and their response was "you can't trust internet diagnostics". After multiple trips where they replaced my valve cover gasket a couple times, they admitted it was my cam tower. It was a sh*&show.

No leaks so far on my 2019 with about 22k on it. My 2009 had 190,000-ish on it when I traded it and no leaks.
