I'd like to fix this myself, the dealership wants over $250, not happening. Looks as simple as removing the screw that's leftover, maybe replacing the strip, and putting the screws back in it. Any suggestions on this? I'm sure I'm not the only one who ran into this before.

Here's what I find. That plastic clip(4) that holds the protector on, you just pop the centre outwards and you can remove it from the hole. Putting it back in, have the centre pulled outwards about 1/8 inch, insert into the hole, then push the centre in which flares the body of it and holds it in place. If you need new ones they are called clip and part no. is 521602020(3 bucks) . That top piece is called a protector and part no. is 657170C051(150. bucks or so U.S.). If it was me and just that one hole(or 4) is ripped a little, I would do a few turns of electric tape on the tear, and put it back on. You could also run a bead of silicone along the top of the tailgate to help hold it on(after cleaning it up good, both surfaces), so silicone sticks. If it flys off, then go get a new one.

yeah, $150? screw replacing that thing. if anything id pop out the plastic rivets and when i put them back in, do so with some silicone. and if that failed, id drill holes through the top of it, and put those screws in the top of the tailgate through it, maybe with a washer or something.

I changed my beatup tailgate cap last year sometime. Got it off eBay. Super simple to change.
