I am really at the beginning stages of researching the next option for my truck. I also have a 2wd that we use for road trips and groceries and live in a city that’s all concrete. What sparked my research is feeling like the truck’s suspension is extremely stiff which was just confirmed after driving wife’s SUV for the first time since installing 6112s on my truck and I remembered what a comfortable ride should feel like. Also, my bonus check will be deposited tomorrow, which is just another incentive to do it right this time. The reason I am leaning toward Fox DSC line specifically is because a) they have linear valving b) they’ll give me my 3” level lift and c) they have high speed AND low speed compression adjusters. King also make coil overs with adjusters but they are not a dual low/high speed compression adjusters. At this point I’d rather cough up the money for a comfortable ride while having the flexibility to adjust it on the fly with the dials if the truck is loaded up. After I do a little bit more research, I’ll reach out to Accutune to talk to a pro to make sure this will fit my needs before I drop 2k on front shocks alone. They also can custom tune the shocks from what I’m reading.

From what it sounds with the supply/demand issue of 6112s, I’ll be able to sell my gently used set for pretty much what I paid for them.

Thanks for the information. I certainly can understand and respect the real world experience that you are sharing. I am curious as to why many companies recommend the 6112 and 5100 set up. I have contacted two companies and both recommended this Bilstein set up for the on road daily driving experience. It is puzzling to me, that companies would recommend this set-up/brand if there are better options out there for this application. Again, I am not questioning your experience (I've been looking for this kind of honest feedback for a while), just trying to understand better.

You are welcome. And I believe their recommendations or anyone on this forum is based on their own personal wants/bias as to what a truck suspension should feel like or maybe those shocks feel decent to them because they are primarily on paved roads? Maybe some really enjoy the stiff planted feel that you’d get with a stock F250? Maybe those suggesting these shocks have steel bumpers with winches that provide a lot more weight and as I said before, the truck feels decent when loaded? There are a lot of factors.

Before diving into this with a new to me truck, I saw the 5100/6112/Toytec push on this forum and at that point I didn’t know any better. “These shocks must be the best thing since sliced bread based on what I am reading.” I also thought that “all shocks are created equal” in a way and I was just really looking to level the truck without the use of spacers. The only reason I went with more expensive 6112s over 5100 is the bigger shock.

For my needs/wants, our sectioned concrete here is like driving on mini stairs. I literally can look in my side mirrors and see 1-2” drop down from one section to the next and digressive shocks don’t do well with washboard roads or low speed compression. I also drove from Texas to Georgia and back in 3 days covering 9 states. Every large city that had concrete roads was a rough ride, paved were fine.

either way, good luck! I reached out to someone on here earlier that had 2 separate CMs, one with 6112 and now with the Fox 2.5 DSC shocks that I want. They said it is a night and day, so looks like I will be swiping that plastic soon after a bit more digging.

You speak the truth. My unpopular opinion is spacers on stock shocks are more comfortable and plushy on road than 6112s if you just need that lift height and don't off road. :anonymous: I had a 2010 Raptor before this Tundra, and the Fox ride quality was 100x better all around.

Thank you for your time to post your opinion on this. I definitely have more research to do.

It seems the further I look into this rabbit hole the deeper it gets !!!!

Again, thank you for the background and insight. Got a link for the ones you are thinking about getting? I'd like to also do some comparison research as well.

How would Icon Stage 1 compare to 6112/5160 combo?

Fox 2.5 with DSC there's also a different set that gives 0-2" lift as well (same price), but I want a 3" lift. I am not 100% sure why it says that upper control arms are required. If it is to give additional clearance, then that's another expense to consider. If it is to get 100% perfect alignment, well I'll skip the UCA for now with a 3" lift. The only numbers that the shop can't dial in 100% with stock UCA, is the castor on my truck, fully maxed out and just a little out of spec but it doesn't affect the tire wear or handling for me. I did find a private seller with a brand new Fox set for about 35% off, waiting to hear back.

Update: I’m picking up that Fox 2.5 front set this weekend, will probably install them within 2-3 weeks and can report back on the ride quality. Also for those still wanting 6112s, I’ll have mine listed for sale after I do the swap. Assembled at 1.9” I believe and around 5k miles, so heads up.

Got mine from AccuTune Offroad. The lead time seems to be much shorter than others. They had my rears in stock last when I ordered and the fronts will be here April god willing.

Go over to Dobinsons threads if you haven’t already. Things aren’t going too well for some.

Another option that isn't very popular here are Rancho shocks. I had a set of the rebound-adjustable RS9000X on my Ram and thought they were really nice. I had the in-cab remote control so I could firm them up when towing or off-road and set'em to soft or somewhere in between depending on road conditions. I rode in a few friends trucks (Rams) with the Bilstein 5100s and they had the sports car feel for handling, but shitty jittery feel on concrete like my Tundra does with the yellow/blue Bilstein 4600. Where I'm at, we have a lot of concrete and I purposely drive out of my way to avoid it. I put Fox 2.0 shocks on the back of my truck a little over a year ago and the difference is outstanding. I shoulda kept going and got either the Fox 2.0 or 2.5 for the front, but then life got in the way...

I've read that Icon is digressive valved too, so I've steered clear from even looking at them. I emailed Elka to see how they're valved and never got a reply.

I saw that they were in stock at 4wheelparts as well so I called first and they said that they are backordered.

I seen it in stock too, but I was on hold for so long, so I hung up and pulled the trigger and bought it. Most likely my order was back ordered as well. Got to be in it to win it.

I checked every website in the nation I could find and called many outfits. No stock anywhere. Not one to wait, I got kings.

A buddy was looking for 5100s and I told him good luck - he did find those at Rock Auto I think it was. Maybe they have bigger billies as well?

Any idea what the spring specs are if someone would want to change to a higher rated spring? Could Fox or King springs be used with it? 3 inch by 16?
