So my wife is on a roll in getting flat tires. Check it out! I ended up buying the certificates from the tire shop.

This is unusual for normal road use. Great for you that you have a good road hazard warranty!
Back in the day when I was framing houses and driving on the job site where nails were common I easily had 2 flats a week for months. I got all tires from discount tire and kept 2 spares. You think I got my money’s worth? lol!

She hit/run over something. That dent in the wheel is right in line with the tear. Whatever it was, was hit with enough force that it collapsed the sidewall, tearing it in the process and damaged the wheel.

She definitely hit something, “she said she saw the hazard but couldn’t avoid it.”

With all the crap on the roads nowadays it doesn’t surprise me. I once had 2 flats at the same time on my Lexus.

More sweepers and to add while on side of road i saw a hyperdermic needle. Fckn low lifes!

I feel your pain, I do a lot of driving in town for work and I've hit all kinds of things. There's often not even enough time to look left and right for traffic, you've just got to grit your teeth and hope for the best.

My son hit “something “ Monday night and busted a 35x12.50r18 Duratrac. Anyone know where they are in stock? I’ve looked all the places I know with nothing but them being on back order.

One needs to attain a certain velocity before hitting a fixed object that results in that kind of damage, and you say your wife can't recall any details.

I can solve the problem with one word: Uber

My parents used to get flat tires all the time until they stopped driving through the end of their alley where a roofer lives.

so i'm not gonna knock on my wife, but she's smoked a curb and seems to have worse luck with nails than I do. When she had her Acura TL before her current Honda Odyssey, she blew out her 19" wheel/tires on a curb. That was an expensive fix since 19s aren't cheap. Now on her van, it had the option to get a tire/wheel/dent repair package through Honda. It's been great. We've replaced 3 tires from nails in about 18 months. As long as the tread is over 3/32's i think it is, they replace it for the same tire at no cost. they do the same with the wheels. good for life of vehicle. even transferrable to aftermarket wheels/tires as long as within factory spec

If she's like my wife, anytime she tries to avoid something in the road she swerves just enough to dead center it with a tire. I've quit bothering to repair her wheels from curb rash (cosmetic - fortunately she hasn't done structural damage, obviously I'd have that replaced).

And she wonders why it's been a year and I still haven't let her drive my truck...

Shoot, I reached down on the passenger side floor to get some chap stick for my dry lips, jumped the curb and blew out both passenger side tires. Luckily on my 89 Hyundai Excel-ent the tires were as thin as some old school roller skates. So I jacked that side up and walked both tires to a shop around the corner and they put two tires on that were worse than the ones I blew out. Beer money gone. Good Ol college days.

Don't be so hard on her..
    She is probably embarrassed.
What is done is done, it doesn't really matter how it happened.
That isn't worth an argument .... IMHO

Not sure where you live but the freeze we just had in Texas have created MASSIVE pot holes on every road and highway.
That looks like it could been a firm square drop into a large pothole with the minimal rim damage..

    Good luck.

To be clear, my comments were about the size of the gash in the tire, not at all about his wife's driving ability or what have you. It's got nothing to do with the wife, I'm sure; I've seen some crazy flats and punctures in my time as well. I'm just flat amazed at the size of that gash is all.

That's odd, I was replying to the OP's post of being pissed off at his wife.

Ok, so for some odd reason when I responded, I didn't see the post you were quoting; I just saw your response, so I assumed it was a general "Hey guys don't be so hard on her" post. I see it now - I'll shaddap. :D

What is the city going to do? You can't blame the city for her driving over something so big it blew your tire and damaged your rim. It's user error.

They aren't going to add more sweepers, clean up the streets or care one bit, because your wife drove over something, got a flat and doesn't remember doing it.

But in this case, she could have run over curb and doesn't remember anything, so how do you prove it's road debris and not driving habits that caused it?

Happy Anniversary Dear....Here's your new dash cam!
