    Synopsis.
Flew down to Houston early February. Landed same day as the freeze up in Dallas.
Roamed the smoky highways until I found a 2014 SR 4.6. Bought it with the understanding that I would leave next day to drive it back.
Found out repairs were going to take 3 days. Told the management to make sweet sweet love to themselves. Got into the rental and then realized that the only other trucks were in Dallas area, which at this point was shut down due to weather.
Hung my head low and walked back into dealership and got it for 400 less as bargaining against having to ship it back to Mass.
Flew out that same Friday and I think Houston went dark the next morning.

4am wake up this morning, tractor trailer outside the driveway. She’s here ladies and gentlemen. She’s finally here.

Now the big question. Do the SRs come prewired for a passenger sun visor with the vanity light or no harness connector up there? Wife mods are first and foremost.

Going to have to give you the sales pictures. 4am 12 degrees outside. Wasn’t taking any glamour pics.

Congrats on the new tundra, can you give details on the shipping company? Did you set it up yourself or was it worked into the deal?

I found a site that shops your route to brokers and submitted my info for quotes. Phone blew up with dozens of promises of all kinds. Some just fishing for more info and some giving prices. The industry is basically brokers that offer the work and independent operators that look at the available jobs and their availability to confirm whether they’ll take the job at the quoted rate. Anyone that tells you they can guarantee you a date is lying. The actual drivers can either accept the quote or tell you they want more. That’s what happened to me. broker gave me a quote, a driver accepted it but the car wasn’t ready. Another driver became available when the truck was finally ready to leave the dealership but he wanted an extra 200. Wasn’t going to argue since I was already deep in the process of submitting and signing forms etc.

Once the driver is confirmed, the broker sends transaction info, contact info and timeline. Expect some chaos and a lot of miscommunication. Overall not that stressful of an experience but I do construction management so my tolerance of people that can’t follow direction is higher than the average bear’s.

Cool, sounds like it would be worth the little hassle to get a nice rust free truck after looking at the New England undercarriages.

That was kind of a daring request, given his user name.

No pre-wire for this. Although, it's just a simple pos + negative to drag up the a-pillar and through roof - just make sure to tap the appropriate fuse if you use add-a-fuse.

I drove out to western Mass for a few trucks based on shadowy pictures of 2nd gen frames. Spent a boat load of time l rking and asking questions and wasting time driving hours just to find out that they spray painted the frame. Totally worth it to head south. You can plan a route and know that you’ve got 5-10 vehicles where you won’t have to wonder how bad the rot is. Even better if you can drive the rig back and make it a road trip. I bought a Plano, Texas 2002 TJ Wrangler with 180k on the clock and me and my 5 months pregnant wife did the trip back up north. Stopped at a ton of national parks and cities. Had great food and had plenty of time to discuss baby names. Had a blast.

So you said you stole it, how much did you pay?

August 1, 2019 here in Canada I stole a new 2019 Tundra 4.6L SR5 DC 4x4 from the dealership brand new. Canadian MRSP was $44,100, I got $8000 off Toyota Canada cash offer and $3000 off in stock. I paid $34,000 CAD for a brand new full size. That at the time was about $25,000 USD.

I drove it for 18 months and traded it in and got $37,000 Ching.

Heh, that I understand. Part of the reason I'm glad to own Toyotas - the last 2 vehicle purchases were Toyotas, and they were THE smoothest purchases ever. Wife's purchase was in and out in 31 minutes; mine was in and out in 22 minutes. (In fairness, wife was in a hurry at the time due to dad being in the hospital; and mine was bought last March when all the COVID madness was starting to take hold.)

    Not sure at this point.
Not too far from me...! Run her through that touchless car wash though! Can't wait until the 50s next week when I can finally give mine a nice bath and a wax before Spring comes around. In need of a wax with all the salts recently on the roads.

I agree. Just have to get the stance right. Plus I work in construction so the bed space is like oxygen. Necessary.

Well. Took it out for the first time to get washed and get some gas in her and go to work. Rear brakes are shuddering something fierce. During aggressive breaking don’t really feel much, but if you’re feathering the brakes to come to a stop light it feels like the rear end is dancing. Feels like rotors? Though dealership report says they did rear brakes before the truck left the lot...

Welcome to the forum from Dallas..

    Congrats on your new truck.
Sorry if I missed it, but how many miles on it?
I have a 2014 with 76K miles and I'm still running the original brake pads..
