We are a Post Constitutional Nation on many levels and have been for a while (your black box as one example). Move along and continue to pay your taxes now. Nothing to see here. Look a squirrel!

Lack of torque, high in the RPM range (265 lb/ft at 4,600 rpm!!!). Going from the 4.0 to the 3.5 didn't help. Frontier 4.0 had 281 lb/ft at 4,000 rpm. Tundra V8, 313 lb/ft at 3,400 rpm. Torque curve plays a huge role. One of the reasons why I drive a Jetta TDI...

We're not getting into this here. If you want to discuss it, go to City-Data. Otherwise, please move on...

Yeah, it looks identical to this one. It was a factory option. I’ve used it a few times. Not the greatest but it works good!

Hard to say. My guess is that if the unit is tied into the CAN Bus along with the Nav unit, it probably has access to the data. Supposedly after 2006 they standardized everything and the owners manual is supposed to tell you if there’s an “event data recorder”.

For the longest time my insurance company was trying to push one of those OBD-II dongles that monitors one's driving so they could "lower my rate". Big no from me dawg.

This is why the insurance people don't know about my dash cam. They wanted remote access to a friend of mines with a similar set up.

Hard hell naw from me. Hell it's recorded parking lot loving once or twice when the truck was christened with the GF at the time.

Mine has never asked that. Possibly because I'm an older driver. They'd get a hard no, anyway - there's a bluetooth dongle in there that I use to connect to the Torque app. I get to see that stuff, not them.

Wait... doesn't the dash cam look OUT through the windshield? On the other hand... ya know what... I don't want to know.

    I started with a 98 4runner then went into a dclb 2010 tacoma
I hated when i had passengers in the back i am about 6 ft and had to move seat forward to drive it when people sat in the back. Went into a 07 tundra crew max and a rcsb tundra both which i loved and i sold for financial reason when wife started nursing school. Didnt want to get into a expensive tundra again and i found a 2006 tundra with loaded with 57k on the clock. The rest is history and i couldnt be happier. Love the front captains seats tundra brings.i plan to keep thia for a long time

I was referring the black box itself having GPS back in 06. Although it's conceivable that it could access GPS data externally if it's tied to the same bus.

I would pay off your Tacoma and kee it, as it will cost you less in the long run, as u should not have to worry about expensive repairs for at least a couple of years if not longer.

mold vehicles usually come with constant repair work to keep them going!

This. Your taco is not depreciating that fast. Hold their value very well, and it’s still a very new and dependable truck. If you need the cash do what you gotta do obviously. But if you enjoy your taco and almost have it paid off, I would personally give it lots of thought and only do it for the right reasons ( you really want a different truck and are prepared for the things that could potentially come with an older vehicle) otherwise enjoy your newer truck and know you can still sell it for a whole bunch in a few years

I am pretty sure this is a dodge guy getting his revenge. Why in the world would anyone let some one do that to their truck? Around here we have these sturdy plants called trees to anchor to. I have seen some roll overs but they are quickly made right. Maybe this truck was stolen and this was only an insurance is paying anyways recovery mission? Either way this seems incredibly wasteful.

That was painful. There wasn't a way to use a couple of vehicles with winches and some creative shackle and anchor points? Bury a couple of tires and use some come-alongs and some man power to right the ship? I feel this was an "I've got insurance" and "I've got youtube gold" situation.

Years ago, I had a 2015 Tacoma TOR. Cool little truck, zippy, easy to park, etc. what I didn’t love about was the size (at that time, it was my only truck) and lack of bells/whistles. If I could, I’d happily own over my tundra as Tacoma’s are a soft spot for me.

In your specific situation, I don’t really see the need to upgrade or downgrade depending on how you look at it. Toyota’s, specifically Tacoma’s probably hold their value better than anything else out there on the road. You won’t be gaining anything by switching IMO. I’d rock that Tacoma but do what makes you happy.

I bought a 2016 Tacoma 4wdDCLB. This 3rd version was nothing like the first one I owned - I seriously thought I'd bought a lemon with the constant searching for gears! So, a year later, I bought a 2017 Tacoma - Same results! I spent and additional $13K in denial - lifting it, custom seats, decals, $1500 tonneau cover, every accessory you could think of, etc. (The 3" lift and rugged tires returned 15mpg.) It really looked awesome! And it just sat in my driveway mostly. It looked rugged but you could damn near out-run it on a bicycle at the start. I just couldn't believe how Toyota went backwards with that new engine! All the while my first gen Tundra (2000) I've owned for 20yrs was always just a better truck. I have no regrets selling my truck for $34K (although I had about 50K in it. The guy I sold it to was in tears - he couldn't believe I was selling it to him). My Tundra Limited has 190K miles. I just spent $7K at the dealer. (I have always done the work but I had major surgery recently.) There was not much wrong with my truck - no frame damage, no ball joints issues, I just had them change out damn near everything (e.g., new timing belt --though I saw nothing wrong with the old one which had about 80K miles, shocks, they charged me $800 for a tune up in there too, etc.) so I can keep it running for another 20yrs. Tacoma's are great vehicles, #1 in resale value for 11 yrs. Just never drive the current version uphill from a stoplight while hauling ATVs and you're good. Though my 2000 Tundra only gets 13mpg, and I've already put in for my Rivian p/u, I'll keep it under my carport I built for it until the carport falls down.

I had a 2nd gen Tacoma that I sold last year for a 1st generation tundra. Everyday I am so glad I made the move. The tundra drives better, has so much more room and handles hauling better for the chores we have for it.

You are correct in the Taco resale value and thank you for your honest feedback. What baffles me is why the resale is so high for what little you get in terms of performance compared to the 1st Gen. I guess it boils down to a Taco Cult Following Mindset like a buddy of mine was in.

He drove about 12 hours round trip for his used one back in 2013. Unloaded it 6 months later cause it ‘sucked’ compared to my 2002 4.7L.
