No, its not required. The old style tune will still be supported. But for me, since the GL on my tune is not working on my truck, it's probably easier to troubleshoot it for OV if I use the VF tuner. And also, it allows me to kinda play with the settings like tire size, shift points, etc.

I am pretty sure I have posted here, in the forum, via zendesk, multiple times that nothing is released for 2020 / 21 tundras. I don't know why that is confusing.

Your post above does not indicate anything regarding year or ECU. It just says “if you have a master key and software set up” then something needs to be converted. Well I have a master key, I have software setup, so based on your post it seemed that something needed to be converted.

FWIW, I'm pretty sure that was in response to a query about the .p5f - .vft conversion I mentioned above...

That was replying directly to Art64 asking about having older files converted.

once again if it is *anything* 2020 / 2021, it's not released yet. Just like what was said the last few times. Many people are wanting 2020/21 support. If we had it ready we would announce it.

I apologize. There was no indication in your post that you were replying to a specific user. Would you mind responding to my questions about what the tune pack for the 2021 will include? I asked here and on the VFTuner forum without a response.

It's an impossible question to answer. The answer is "nothing" until full support for 2021 is done. I don't want to promise anything until we are certain what we can / can't offer.

From what I gathered on VFforum it's a one man show so while it can cause some delays I look around at what's offered and come up short for the price OV is charging. I can appreciate the work being done for our platform not too mention cross platform functionality if you own other supported vehicles like I do.

Directions are well documented although some things still leave questions on the table as do others attempting this feat. Hopefully as more get familiar with the software they will help others as the Tundra Community typically does and a reason this forum is my preferred source of information when I need it.

I'm still waiting patiently for my Master Key but my cable is on the way at least.

being a business with only 2 people means things take time.
Our product is not for everyone. But there's not much else out there for Tundras anyway.
We provide the best we can with what we have. People can naysay, can call us a joke, whatever. We ignore it and continue working on what we are working on.

Assuming you have VFTuner, the ones available so far are in: C:\Program Files (x86)\vF Tuner\Tundra 07-17\Supercharged Calibrations
    Screenshot 2021-02-27 054323.jpg

And they're base tunes, not the one that you may be running if you've done a little one on one with Mat. Those will come later converted from .p5f to .vft files. If your base tune is listed, you should be able to download it (using your free credits) if you want to poke around or start a tune "from scratch". Example, my base tune is listed, I d/l'd it and will wait for my custom tune to be converted to compare the two and maybe learn how some of this works.

I got excited for a moment, but neither my base or supercharged tunes are listed in the vF folder, which seems odd (0CD21/YWF34). Guess I'll be waiting for the .p5f conversion or more ECUs/tunes to be added in.

Not an excuse what so ever. You're a business. Hire employees to do that work for you. God knows your tune is not cheap so you can afford it.

I had his tune on my tacoma. It wasn't worth it what so ever. I was banned because I said it didn't help the truck any. That is why I sold the tacoma and bought a tundra. Much happier.

I'm not directly standing up for OVTune here, as I don't have their product on my Tundra, and other than expressing my interest in this thread, have never communicated with or purchased anything directly from them (full disclosure, my GF's Tacoma does have their tune on it); but in the overall scope, for a $40-50k vehicle, their tune is fairly inexpensive ($600 for everything if I'm reading their online cart correctly).

I've worked in the automotive aftermarket industry for ~17 years at this point (back when tuning the car involved desoldering the factory chip and adding pins to the board, not a 2 minute flash), and waiting for an ECU tuning company to come out with a specific tune, do updates, etc. is just a normal (unfortunate) part of the process. Things don't go right at first many times (with a large dealer network for testing the public often never even hears about or sees this). We've dealt with the same ECU tuning company since we started, we've done a lot of pre-release testing on a lot of different models, we've had fully custom files built for specific builds and products, I've personally spent dozens (if not hundreds) of hours with a laptop in the car doing data logs for the most minute changes in the most obscure load/tps/rpm instances.

To say that "it didn't help any" is such a vague statement. Did the remap not change your throttle response? Did it not change the butt dyno? Did it not change actual measured power to the wheels? Did it not help fuel economy? Did it not change shift points? What did it not do, and what did it do?

Again, I'm not writing this to defend OVTune, from what I've read through this thread, Mat seems like an overworked guy trying to develop a product (well, a number of them) in a niche market, which is not an easy task to start, let alone continue (it's never "finished"). However, your post is more like a click-bait YouTube video title. Was the fact that the OVTune flash "didn't help the truck any" the actual reason why you sold it and bought a Tundra?

Really, truly, absolutely not trying to get into a flame war here, but there is good information in this thread, no reason to muddle it with vague posts against the company's offering for a different vehicle.

We have so much data and independent dyno results on the tacoma that saying "it doesn't help any" is purely opinion and if taken at face value a completely false statement.

Thank you for the business advice. I get a lot of business advice usually from people who don't run a business. We are doing the best we can with the resources we have right now. The reality is if we were to go out and hire people to provide all this additional assistance the price of what we offer would be considerably higher than it is right now, or what the end user would receive would be much less. We offer what we do at the price we do because we understand we are a small business, things take time, delays happen.

Compare to a dyno tune for example, you're looking to pay easily $1000-1500+, and you won't get any software in the end, just the tune and that's it.

LOL weridly I still lost a drag race to a tundra after your tune, by exactly the same amount I lost to it before the tune. You're purely looking at bs numbers. You can make a Dyno read ANYTHING and as a business that is in it for profit, you'd do exactly that.

I do run my own business. I know when I need help, I tend to hire someone.
Some of the things that "Take time" are due to lack of planning.

You are right, you can make some dynos read anything.

however I can't make other shops dynos read anything. The dyno results are all independent, not my shop, not my truck, etc. I don't even know the names of the shops they were tested at.

In a drag race half the effort in winning is the driver, the launch, etc. No amount of horsepower will get you to the finish line first if you can't drive.
I have hired staff and have 2 developers working for us nearly full time.

It did not make a difference in the sense of throttle response(which is something I was looking for), crisper shifts were non-existent, and MPG did not improve.
All parts of the "snake oil"
Toyota did a "good" job with what they do with their tune. In this case, what was being offered just wasn't there and a total waste of money.

I hated how the Tacoma drive, it was sluggish and searched for gears a bunch. Everyone was stroking OV tune over how well it made their truck run. So I bought in on that click bait and was completely let down. Did I learn my lesson? Absolutely. I am hopeful more people don't do the same dumb thing I did.

Honestly sounds like you didn't even load the tune. Saying it did not even provide better throttle response makes no sense, it's the first thing changed.

Toyota did a good job with their tacoma tune? That's the #1 complaint of the tacoma and why so many of them are lemon lawed and why toyota has updated the tune on it 20+ times over multiple calibrations...

They just updated MT tacoma calibrations again for random loss of throttle. The stock Tacoma tune is down right dangerous in some circumstances.

Compared to your calibration, they did.
And I 100 percent loaded it, because when it was read it would say my name(which is the way you formatted it).

Loading the registration key shows your name. Not the tune. That's only half the process. Which makes me think even more you never actually loaded the tune to the truck.

Why are you here on our Tundra thread? You're not our Tundra customer, and from the sounds of it didn't even actually load our Tacoma tune onto your truck, and are just here to talk trash about us?..
