I bought a 2016 Tundra TRD Pro recently. It has started to vibrate/shimmy when braking. Read this may be due to front rotors/brakes that may need to be changed out.

    Wanted to get feedback on...

    1) Is front end shimmy due to rotors/brakes or could it be something else?

    2) What's the difficultly level for changing out brakes for someone that's never done it before? (I have experience with working on battery, thermostat, audio wiring, sound deadening, and the like)

    3) Are Power Stop Z36 Rotors / Brakes any good or would this group recommend other brands?

    Thanks in advance!

    1. If it happens while braking, then most likely brakes. Less likely tire out of balance. This seems common on tundras. Mine started shaking under 20k.

    2. It’s pretty easy. It can be done in an afternoon in your driveway with simple tools. Watch a video and see if it looks like something you could do.

    3. They are ceramic so they are soft. I had them but switched to ebc and the pedal feels much better.

    Much appreciated!

For #3, did you use ebc for both rotors and brake pads?

    Thanks!

I still have the power stop rotors with ebc pads. Next time Im going to try ebc rotors or the stop tech cryo rotors that some post about.

One more thing. I got brake fade with the powerstop around 500F. I know that’s pretty high but I think ebc is rated higher.

My truck would vibrate and shake when braking, I took to get it Road Force balanced and it still vibrate and shake. Next step changed out the rotor and brakes. ( didn’t have to ) but since i was gonna swap out the rotor mind as well change it. Boom , no more vibration and shaking/ shimmy. I just swapped it with the OEM rotors.

    Good timing,
I noticed a slight pulsating under braking recently and just had new pads & rotors done today and it's perfect now. I've only had the truck for 6 months so can't be 100% certain about the previous maintenance but the shop measured the old rotors and they were slightly under spec so likely turned once already. New ones are so cheap no it makes sense to just replace them. Good luck and I hope you have the same results.

Truck is in great shape and I love it! It's become a project truck and I'm upgrading items to fit my tastes. This will give me an opportunity to install new rotors/brakes from the start.
    Thanks for the good luck!
