    Hi all,

I recently did an oil change and discovered the oil filter the dealer put in did not have the perforated part inside of the filter.

I have one of the Jowett metal housings, so they didn’t place it back into the new oil filter the last time the oil was changed. Thoughts? Is it needed?

They don’t sell that part separately and I was quoted by a different dealer $90 for the entire housing.

your talking the metal flute inside that the filter sits on? If so you can buy it on Amazon for a lot cheaper, make sure its the long one, the short one that comes with the aluminum housing is not right. I had mine changed from the plastic to the aluminum and the forgot to switch the middle part and it leaked really bad.

Are you saying the perorated metal tube was missing? I didn't know that it was not needed. That's bad, right?

Did you take the perforated tube out of your plastic cap when you replaced it with the metal one? I don’t see how they could have forgot to put this in, unless you didn’t swap in the longer tube when you swapped caps. The tube doesn’t just come out when you pull the filter so I don’t see how they would have not had it there when they changed it.

Its the dealers fault, get them to fix it. If they cant get the part for yours then get them to give you a toyota one. I mean if a dealer cant do an oil change right then do you want them to work on your truck. Not sure that the oil filter is working properly as it would collapse on its self. When I had the leak on mine I got the dealer to fix it, pressure wash my drive way and give me a free oil change in the future.

should be there. Most of us swap the plastic assembly to an aluminium housing and switch to the long perforated tube since the aluminium housing comes with a short one. you need to twist it to take it out. not sure how it could be lost.

It’s not there. Dealer had to have not swapped it over when they installed the metal housing.
I’m going to order a replacement from Amazon.

I get it, the dealership is responsible, but I’m not having them touch the car again if they messed up a simple swap housing oil change.

You took the dealer the Jowett aftermarket cap to install with your oil change?

You should first contact Jowett to determine if the aftermarket cap provides internals for installation of the Toyota center support tube and spring-loaded pressure relief valve. If it doesn't, then there's nothing else the dealer's tech could have done.

I've had a Jowett for 4+ years. Installed it and do all my own oil changes. YES it does have proper accommodation for the center core tube. The only way to remove a center core tube is with extraordinary deliberate intention.

If you have a Jowett than you have a brain that says "I do my own oil changes because I demand high excellence and borderline perfection on my oil changes."

Yeah, yeah, I know you do, Babalama. But, I didn't know if it covered the center tube installation. :D

Insert here your similar public announcement for the appropriate Fumoto Oil Drain Valve, God's gift to the intelligence-challenged, dirty, and unwashed. OP may not have one yet. :D
