I have the 1240D with the built in solar input. My solar panels wouldn't work with the solar input though, I kept getting over voltage shutoff on the bcdc.

When I contacted redarc they said I could just run solar to the battery without any added relays and that the solar controller and the redarc would work together. It's been set up this way since August with no issues, but I don't know if it will have issues in the future. I also only have solar connected to the aux battery, so nothing goes into the staring battery.

Ah yes. I think this is why they say you need a relay on the redarc to run solar AND alternator, they can't run both at the same time so its really OR. My old setup was a cheaper model blue sea ACR with a separate mppt solar controller wired to the aux battery. Turns out the ACR opened both ways so if the aux was solar charging stationary it topped off the starter battery too. I've been eyeing the redarc but seems I can get better functionality out of standalone solar controller and auto charging relay for 1/3 the cost minus the larger wiring. Seeing as how you ended up going to standalone solar anyway.

Yeah if I had to do it again knowing what I know now I would not have purchased the redarc. From what I've read the dual function has some pretty severe limitations for solar input.

I added a grille guard to the bumper today. I was just mocking it up as an example but I liked it, so I welded it up.

Sorry for the belated reply. I havent adjusted on my fuel ratios any but I'm also at sea level so I don't see a real need. I'm also not running a CO detector ATM but I've often wondered if it could be a possibility for the diesel engine combustion chamber to leak allowing fumes and CO to be blown into the ducting in the tent. So that may be something I look into adding and is cheap insurance.

What solar panel did they install? What was the open circuit voltage? I have two Renogy 100w panels that I plan to use through my BCDC 1225 and wondering if I will have a problem. Open circuit voltage for one panel is 21.6V. I know very little about solar as well so I am assuming use two of these panels would still keep the 21.6V.

They installed two Sunpower 170 watt panels for me.

Here is a picture of what I think the over voltage shutoff is.

I see, looks like yours has an OCV of 34.6. I should be good with my panels then. Thanks!

No real build updates, but we finally got to bring our new copilot home after 5 weeks in the hospital. He got to go on his first little dirt adventure when we got home.

Thanks guys. He made us work for it for a while, but it's good to have him home. We can't wait until he's all cleared to get out camping and off-roading. He'll be helping out for the first time with a tundra mod tomorrow.

This week I replaced the Rago dash plate with the new Expedition Essentials mount. I waited forever for them to release one and finally gave up and settled for the Rago only to have it released a few months later.

My impression so far is that it is way more solid and in my opinion worth the extra money.

I had the Expedition Essentials mount in my Tacoma and it was solid! Wish this was out before I went with the ICS fab one, I would rather have shorter arms on my mounts.

I am glad I switched over. It is a much more solid mount.

I picked up my truck yesterday from being regeared. I went with 5.29's from nitro gear and added a grip pro limited slip. Huge thanks to East Coast Gear Supply for overnighting the grip pro to the shop after I decided to add it last minute.

We trailered it home instead of turning the 3 hour drive into a 6 hour drive with the break in process.

If anybody is interested in a front bumper, we are starting to expand at the shop and will be offering them for sale soon. We recently got a press brake that will speed up our production.

I'll hopefully have a for sale thread soon. IMG_20201231_170236711.jpg

It looks great where you're at! I'm planning to go out with a buddy planning a trip to northern NM this spring.

Northern NM is awesome, there is a lot of hidden gem areas that are pretty awesome. Lots of great camping.

It's not quite done yet, but we started on the bed build out for the camper. We built a box across the front with a 25 gallon water tank, an on demand pump, renogy 200ah deep cycle battery powered by a redarc bcdc charger and a renogy solar controller. The rest is just loose storage area. On the passenger side we built a drawer for the kitchen and cooking supplies with an alucab tilting fridge slide on top. The water hose is also on that side in it's own little area. On the driver's side we built a narrow box to hold the diesel heater and more loose storage. The box isn't complete yet because we are waiting on the vent to show up so we can cut the hole. We also built a moveable little bed for our little dude so he would have his own space.

We also got to get out camping this last weekend. Just a quick shakedown trip to test the bed build out and see how the little dude would do.

I finally made the time to start the rear bumper. Should be cutting the bedsides tomorrow. The truck will have way more clearance with the new bumper. At least 6-8" behind the tires and about 8-10" at the hitch.
