Probably not much. Gas has been that high or higher in recent past and people still bought big V8s all the time.
The cost difference between $3 vs $4 a gallon is not that significant. Even at 13mpg over 15k miles its only like $96 a month.
If that's a deal breaker then maybe a V8 Tundra is not the right choice. For most folks that's probably not enough of a difference to not get what you want.

Yea, kind of was. “Turbos and cost of said turbos over the course of ownership? vsfluids, fluids, and fluids?”

This insinuates that the cost of maintenance with turbos will be much higher than that of replacing fluids. Since turbos don’t require any regular maintenance that I am aware of it can only mean that you suggest the turbos possibly used in the new Tundras will have mechanical issues that will outweigh the cost of “fluids”.
I have complete faith that when Toyota puts out a different engine option it will have been vetted and come with the same reliability that the 5.7 has now. And I’ll be more than happy to take the performance gains that will come with it.

As much as I like my Tundra I am ready to see some change. I personally believe it’s long overdue.

I didn't wait, I bought a 2021 Platinum for an absurd price with 0% financing. I figured what the hell it's a Tundra it'll probably be worth not much less than I bought it for. Plus, if the new Tundra is lame, my truck will be PRIME TIME, LOL. If the new Tundra is a hit, mine will still be in demand. Either way I win.

I owned turbo, hybrid, V8 4.7, and V8 5.7 Toyota vehicles. I bought my 2020 5.7 because at that time I didn't know that Toyota will release turbo and hybrid tundra. Toyota made turbo and hybrid decades ago and they both are very reliable. If you do not need a truck right away, wait for 2022 model.

I understand why people want to see new tech/features in the tundra, but as someone who came from a car that had minimal technology (no safety features, Bluetooth, infotainment screen etc) to a 2020 tundra, this is a huge step up for me! Good luck in your decision OP.

Well my first gen Toyota story goes...Bought a new 1st gen Avalon, 2nd year on the market. Walk into the garage 1 morning, nothing but transmission cooling oil covering 1.5 spaces of a 2 car garage. Now Toyota did come pick it up, clean up the car (the bottom was covered) and made the fix without a charge. Service advisor states, yeah its a known flaw, recall happened 6 months later after I had moved on. Vehicle smelled like burnt oil for at least 4 weeks. There will be production bugs to resolve for any manufacture, lesson learned.

I come from the muscle car days of the 70s and have built and run my fair share of engines for drag racing, road racing and even monsterous custom Harleys.
There's no substitute for cubic inches and I don't care if you put twin turbos on something. It's a nice exercise in engineering "look what I did" but reliability will always be in question.
If your in to trucks like I'm assuming everyone on this forum is, torque, payload, strength are terms that come up daily. Big block engines fit the bill perfectly for that.
Thats why diesels fit the bill so nice due to their power delivery.
Toyota's 5.7 is a thing of beauty and should be in the truck hall of fame. For me, just adding a blower to this pump is all you need to do to have the perfect, long lasting truck motor for anything.
One more thing, Sales and marketing have a lot of input on what they "think" is needed for increased sales of their product. Toyota's engine boys are just looking at this as another exercise to keep the marketing people happy and the homolagation of Toyota engine fitment requirements where the company has planned it's auto lines to be in the future.
I'm betting if you asked any of the powertrain boys there what they would want to build for "their" own truck powerplant, the would say a blown 5.7 and a six pack for the tail gate sittin.

I understand what you're saying here, but that's a bit contradictory since the big diesels you're referring to almost universally use a turbo to make all that power. Turbos have never really been one of the reliability issues with diesels as far as I know.
I'm not sure where this theory that turbos are unreliable comes from, but I've owned several turbo cars over the years and the turbo and associated plumbing was never an issue. One of them being a pretty built 06 CTD with over 200k miles, and the other a very built WRX, nary an engine problem with either.

All the new electronics and computers worry me way more than turbos.

I know the turbos on the Rams go out from time to time but that's probably due to them being Chryslers.

The newer Tundra Pro's ('19-'21) are built on the Limited trim, so have the same amenities as the Limited (e.g., heated leather seats), but with the added suspension, wheels and cosmetics that make the Pro unique.

Near free money on the loan. Why not? 21 SR5 with TRD pkg. They were agreeable to several things in price negotiations that did not drop the price, but I got oil changes/spray in bed liner/3 years of subscription stuff included with mine. They also gave me 10k for my trade, a 06 duramax with 265k miles and a little beat up. That old truck was a turbo diesel that gave me very little trouble, but things were bound to start breaking.

Just wondering how you got them to throw in the bed liner and the other things, did you have to play hardball? These guys won’t throw in ANYTHING though there is a 1000.00 rebate and 500 for veterans.I went to a different dealership after walking out and they are the same although he did tell me that they had a “Toyota remote sales meeting” and that he was positive that the v-6 TT would be their hybrid and that the V8 would still be available so take that with a grain of salt.He seemed pretty confident about that and was a nice guy.

I only have one dealer here so once I found out they were not moving on price I just threw out some stuff I read about on this forum, Thank you guys! I did get the 1k rebate but must have missed the 500 for veterans. I only said I could wait till gas goes up a buck then come back and negotiate a deal . They had refundable “hold” deposit on my truck so I guess they knew I was serious about buying.

Tell them you’ll buy now if they throw in the extras. They would not throw in the transmission cooler, but I got everything else. They know these gas hogs are going to take a hit soon.

Thanks for the info I will see if that works on one of them for sure.As far as the Veterans discount it’s only for Active Duty and retired of which I’m neither but the dealership did say they would honor it which was great(though not the salesman he was a dolt and it was a sales manager that overheard us and came over.)

It had the TRD package, and I *think those are nicer wheels than SR5 typically ships with. Probably using whatever they have to get them shipped. No extra wheel upgrade charge.

RIGHT! Lol, around Texoma most dealers won't move past the 1k rebate during these times. Mine did 1k rebate, 1500 discount and 2k above KBB fair price for my trade which is 2k more than anyone else would do = $4500 total discount on a 2021 SR5 Trail Edition + free tint. And 0% financing wasn't even an option.

I've personally had a few first year problems so I decided to grab the 21 and see how the 22 goes, If I love the 22 then I'll wait and buy the 23 or 24. My 2012 first year Civic Si had to have the engine rebuilt under warranty for an oil usage TSB. My 2015 first year WRX was a complete lemon with tons of issues bone stock and was bought back. My 2019 Silverado had the brake failure issue and more recalls than I can count, oil cooler lines, seat belts that could catch fire etc etc..... that could all be normal though since it was a Chevy and may have nothing to do with being a first year.... Even the early 2019 Camry's had a recall for piston ring issues.

I ordered a '21 SR5 4x4 DC yesterday and scored a lifetime powertrain warranty, lifetime oil changes, $7k off MSRP plus whatever factory incentive there may be when the truck arrives. I assume maybe $1k more.

I was told the factory in San Antonio will begin to re-tool for the '22 in June so if you want a new '21, you are running out of time.

Never heard of that being an issue, especially since Cummins uses Holset turbos... Chrysler has nothing to do with that. Maybe the newer stuff has had issues but I haven't really paid attention.
