There is a Chinese company named Leweda that makes identical knock offs but does come with a Leweda branded red and white box. Very cheap filter that could be put into a fake Yota box and sold online. Best to get them direct from the dealership or online Yota dealership.

Ok, so I gotta ask... maybe this needs to be a separate thread but... thoughts on using K&N or Mobile 1 filters from the auto parts stores? I have always used one of those or a Wix filter.
My thinking.... there is little doubt a K&N air filter is better and more economical than the oem. Mobile 1 is known for high quality oil products. What evidence is there to say that they would be any lower quality than oem?

IMO Cant go wrong with oem or wix or purolator. K&N lets too much dirt through the media. Stay away from fram back in the day they were good, but are junk now.

Do the search. I'm sure there have been many such threads previously. All posters will be convinced that what they buy is the best, i.e. "theirs" goes "further and higher", all based on opinion, conjecture, and seller marketing. Perfectly worthless information for making an informed decision.

I have the same box of filters. They appear to be the real deal, has there been any other consensus on this?

Stopped by dealer today and bought a filter. Checked against the ones I have at home...everything matches, the box, made in Thailand, the legitimate glowing Toyota insignia on top, the outer box number, and the number that is different printed on the filter itself. Everything is the same. The filters from metro are legit real. Use with confidence.

Easiest way to catch a fake. Fakes typically will say made in japan (Thailand is the correct country) and if you squish the filter, it will easily collapse. The factory ones you’d have to REALLY try to deform them.

The little reflective Toyota sticker will also be non existent or of really low quality.

Walmart’s even sell Toyota filters now on their store shelves. The ones I saw were genuine. So that is an option too. But at the dealer they’re not horribly overpriced and if you ask nicely they usually throw in the drain plug gasket for free

Any thoughts on these filters for our Rav4? Bought them off eBay last year. Reflective sticker seems legit and they are pretty firm when I try to squeeze them but the stamped part # is different.

I'm thinking now that the actual filter media has it's own part number. Looks legit to me.

Dang! now you guys got me all worried. I had to go grab my filters that i bought from this ebay seller. https://www.ebay.com/itm/265421284357 i got them about 2 years ago. good solid filters. Media has same part number as whats on the outside of the box. made in thailand. only thing that i dont see is the "genuine " holographic sticker on the box. seems legit though.

Update: just took them into a Toyota dealer and did a comparison. Looks like mine are fake. I will see if I can get my money back from the seller which was some Northeastern supplier

These filters are 4 bucks from dealers online and have free shipping often.

Toyota sells these for less than 5 bucks each, i dont understand how these are worthwhile to counterfeit. The world is a weird place. How much money could they possibly make by faking these.

It’s gotten weirder too… now if you buy used parts on eBay, I’ve had ALOT of counterfeit NEW parts in boxes…. The world is really weird

You would think they would counterfeit more expensive items that are not that complicated like, i would understand fake TPMS sensors, or anything that is unnecessarily expensive from the dealer thats really simple. Or like the driver side grab handle which is around 200 bucks new.

It’s what I was thinking too has anyone ever seen the darker color one? I emailed yotashop about the issue they assure me it’s original and that they buy directly from Toyota and he personally runs it in his tundra..but could be all snake oil. So now I’m scared to put the oil that came from them in my truck too any chance that gets faked? Lol. I also emailed the YouTuber carecarenut see what he thinks about it and if he’s seen the orange ones before

I asked about the color and why it’s different from the listing. He said all their oil filters are the same orange and that the color is different on photo because of their editing lol. At this point it’s not worth it to return it. I paid the 30 to ship it to me that’s not refundable. Then I have to pay to ship it back and 15% restocking fee

I actually follow Car Care nut on YouTube as well. I just stopped at my one Toyota dealer and did a side by side comparison. I'm positive I have counterfeit ones. The one that I just looked at at the Toyota dealer was literally a bright orange. Didn't even have a part number listed it just said Toyota on the filter element itself. The box also looked quite different compared to what mine is

NOTE THESE APPEAR TO BE COUNTERFEIT FILTERS AS SHOWN IN THE PICS BELOW 20230306_144807.jpg 20230306_144803.jpg 20230306_144816.jpg 20230306_144823.jpg 20230306_144829.jpg 20230306_144837.jpg

Yours appear legitimate. Especially from the ones that I just looked at a local Toyota dealer. They look exactly like what you took a picture of. The ones that I posted pics of are counterfeit

I just got 3 filters from Toyota. Mine are a darker orange color and there was a piece of paper explaining that Toyota has switched their material / media and the new darker orange filters are the newest, but nothing wrong with the lighter yellow until old stock is used up.

The filter had no part number on it, just the word "toyota" in black on two of the flaps.

When I responded earlier, I thought there was a pice of paper with that message in each filter box, but now that I think about it, it may have been on the receipt or in the bag, because it looks like I threw it away.... Sorry.

Your pictures look EXACTLY like what I just purchased from the dealer. I'd say you are good to go.
