So, I just got this 2018 Tundra, and the factory sticker or whatever it is seems to have collected a bunch of dirt. Anyone know the best way to remove this? I have the much better ones from Sparks Parts that is an actual plastic piece that snaps onto the door edges to put in its place.

Not sure if I dare try to remove with a razor blade or a plastic label removal tool and what it may have done to the paint underneath is a little worrisome too. Goo Gone an option here?

    Thanks for reading!

I would try a pressure cleaner first followed by goo gone, but i could be wrong....

I would try using you finger nail from the backside to get it started. 3m makes a wheel for a drill that I have seen recommended here sometime ago for removal of adhesives left behind from emblems. Do the new ones cover them up?

That picture makes my eyes bleed so I can't tell exactly what type of edge protector you have, but I've replaced my factory installed edge guards with the clear 3M film ones without any problems. I think what came on mine was either the same or similar to the 3M and peeled off pretty easily.

Yep, not a great photo but I was trying to keep my fat silhouette out of the picture. Lol

I haven't attempted to peel it off by hand, figured I'd check here first. My big concern is if the paint underneath is going to be damaged or if it's going to show a permanent line there. Hopefully the new clip on guards will cover it up regardless.

I think you’ll be ok. Should clean up with a little soap and water I’d guess, maybe some goo gone if there’s any residue.

I don't know about your situation but I have removed many stickers with a heat gun and plastic scrapper. Residual glue is then removed with goo gone. A heat gun and goo gone also works on tree sap. Good luck!

That edge guard has only been on ~3 years. The paint underneath should be fine. The clear protection that you can have Toyota applied is only rated for 4-5 years and should be removed in that window. People who have had it on longer notice a visual discoloration in the film and when they tried to remove the 7+ year old film it took paint with it. (Pulling from old posts/threads I read on here long ago)
Your film looks good (minus the dirt/grime) should you shouldn't have anything to worry about when peeling it off.
