    Hey guys and gals,

Long time creeper, first time poster.

2015 Tundra with 5.7 ffv just went out of warranty and am now dealing with the dreaded rough start, running rich issues that seem to plague these trucks.

Going to the dealer on Monday to get a diagnostic and expecting to be told that the fuel pump, etc needs to be replaced.

My question is will running a new tuner from bully dog allow me to lock out of ethanol mode for good and bypass the $2000 service from the dealer?

Would be thankful for any help. I rebuild vintage Jap bikes and have always owned older vehicles prior to this purchase. I can tune carbs all day but all this mystical technology stuff is new for me.

I can't imagine it would due to the alc % and engine response being computed by ECU from expected fuel input and o2 sensors. I'm in the same boat and thought of the same potential workaround.

I've read others have put aftermarket fuel pumps on and had success (URD was mentioned as one source, though their site says pumps for the tundra will not work with flex fuel engines, so I'm lost how that's a solution). After 3 trips to dealer, I finally printed out the TSB, highlighted the sections that applied and what I wanted them to do to reset the ecu (no fuel pump replacement due to their absurd labor/markup). Cost $150, but I still have the delayed coughing start and stuttering through 1st gear from stop, and ethanol reading 85%. So they either 1. didnt' do anything and charged me because I was frustrated and brought them instructions 2. did the reflash, but not the alcohol density relearning or 3. did the reflash and relearning, but I won't see a change until the pump is replaced.

Any of you vets who have had extended success after addressing this issue want to share some knowledge?

I kinda second what this guy said...$2,000 dollars for a full pump service is ridiculous when you can do it yourself for a fraction. Plenty of YouTube videos on this as well for assistance.

Give Keith Carty of Dirty Deeds Industries a call at 760-877-4234 and pick his brain on this. Bully Dog and Keith did a ton of testing and product development over the years together.

    Alright, guys...
Just got back from the dealer. Truck seemed more responsive when i picked it up. It was running when they handed it off to me. Drove back to work and parked it for 5ish hours in 60 degree weather and hard the exact same issue. Nothing like $1200 down the drain.

Invoice states EN001 Reprogram and R&R Fuel pump, 77020-0C120 tube assy fuel suct, and 77169-0C010 Gasket.

$661.73 in parts and 494.76 in labor.

    Back to the drawing board.

did you check under the hood to see if they put a sticker to show the new ECU updated version? The TSB says to replace fuel pump, flash ECU, then relearn alcohol readings. Very possible one of those were not done. I'm fairly positive the last time I asked them to flash my ecu I was charged but no work was done. I haven't seen anyone here who has had the problem continue after finding a dealer who agreed to do the TSB.

I know this thread is old but I went in to my dealership and they new exactly what the problem was and told me about the tsb. I asked them to do the ECU flash and Ethanol relearn and they are happy to do it as long as I understood that it may only be a temporary fix and I might need the fuel pump in the future per tsb recommendation. It’s only been a couple days but I’m getting 13 mpg again Instead of 7 and the rough cold start also went away for now.

Far as I could tell when I went down this rabbit hole, they are the same. The impellors have issues on some fuel pumps, so they replace with the same and hope it doesn't. I have the delphi part number on my DIY replacement post and that's why I went aftermarket and don't regret it

It does not allow any pick & choose modes outside performance, shifting etc. Furthermore, it threw codes all the time on my Flex Fuel 2013 Sequoia that they say is compatible but for 9 months have not provided a solution. I have mine for sale unlocked here if you want to try.

My full disclosure warning is their support stinks and it did not work on my Sequoia but did on my non Flex 2010 Tundra.

I’m not sure if anybody on here is familiar with YotaTune. I live in Ontario, not sure if they do American visits or not. But I recently purchased an American 2015 pro with this issue. Anyway, YotaTune did the alcohol reset and an ECM update for $90 CAD. The tuner was unsure of whether or not the problem would return but it’s been almost 3 months without a hitch. At the very least you could get the alcohol reset done for a more reasonable price than at the dealers. I contacted my local dealer when I learned about this issue and they apparently had no idea what I was talking about as flex fuel tundras are very rare in Canada.

BD barely (IMHO) does what it's marketed to do. I use Techstream to reset my ethenol when I need to.

Oops. I thought this was a new thread.

    Some
Pump replacement not really required in most cases I think.
    From TSB, these steps work.
    1. Perform the learning value reset
    2. Perform the fuel density learning value reset. Then key off.
    Additional steps some people skip...
    3. Add 3 gallons gas.
    4. Test drive. I think at least some miles is best but just my opinion.

I think 3 & 4 may be important. I used Scangage to watch my fuel trims and alcohol % after the resets. Adding fuel seems to trigger something for alcohol value. That number took some time to stabilize but has stayed at zero now since the 3rd or 4th fill up.
