agreed, vaporware at this point as far as I can see. the only thing on that page, is a couple 2021 pics looks like as far as I can tell, and the form to fill out for dealership to call you....

Come on Toyota. At this point they’re just playing mind games taking this long to reveal it. :annoyed:

not really though man. look how many people even on this thread just say what they have is fine, no improvement is needed or wanted.

couple that with the shortage in supply and they will still sell every tundra they make, even if it is a 15 year old truck.

Im not saying I agree with that, but thats pretty popular around here, I get that.

I think the only reason to buy a tundra at this point is reliability, thats about it when you look at the other trucks, they are all way nicer inside, more features, way more well thought out regarding storage and utility, have higher payloads, higher towing, and on and on.

but what they don't have is Toyota rep for reliability which seems to be tops here, which is expected.

all that said, release the damn truck Toyota, HA!

Somewhere earlier on this thread the sales numbers were posted for the Tundra. Toyota basically sells 100,000 per year. Even if Toyota does not roll out a new design, they are going to sell 95-100k Tundra's per year based on name, resale, reliability, returning customers. I don't think rolling out a cutting edge platform is going to change the game for Tundra. People are automatically going to go to the dealer and buy a Ford or Chevy without doing research as that is what their dads, grandpas, family members have always drove. I know about 15 Ford owners that are family, friends, co-workers, etc.... Less than half can tell you what engine it has in it. Me, "What engine does your F-150 have in it?" Them, "I believe it has an EcoBoost" Me, "Cool, which EcoBoost does it have in it?" Them, "What do you mean, it has an ecoboost engine."

Heck, Toyota could do a redesign and go back to 1985 and do a truck with a straight axle, carbed, cloth bench seat and sell 90k on name alone.

I do not blame Toyota one bit for milking the current platform for basically 14 years. No reason to be in a hurry and try to compete with manufacturers that sell 9x the amount of trucks you do.

I have seen a few like these that were very vague about details, but this one seems to point out a few more specific items that are not just marketing team's guesswork.

Imagine the shock on the Ford salesman's face when I come in asking for a V8 with minimum of a 3.55 final drive. I didn't like the F150 after the test drive anyway, but I got a lot of "what are you talking about?" and "why does that even matter?" from friends and the dealerships... well I'm not trading my sedan for a pickup just to go get groceries!

My hope with the 2022 Tundra is it keeps an aggressive final drive, at least as an option even if they have to charge more for a tow package.

the tundra doesnt really have that aggressive of gearing once you put the trans into things. yes its short in teh rear at 4.30 but its tall in the trans.

for instance, my ram with 3.92 and the ZF 8 was shorter in second than the tundra is in first...

I agree with some of this, but don't think reliability is the only reason. But probably the most important. I drive the newer Chevy product at work and am not impressed with their interiors or fit and finish. What Dodge's ride and interior has, doesn't make up for it's quality and longevity issues. I'd only really consider the new F150, however being brand new are very overpriced. Also most of the newer trucks have gadgets and features that solve problems I don't have. I'm fortunate enough not to be a high mileage driver, so fuel economy isn't much of a problem for me. On top of that, my 14 Ecoboost wasn't great on fuel unless I was on the highway not towing.

totally get it , my basic feeling is that tundra platinum has fallen too far behind when your talking about top trims, but I’m also basing that on my 2016 as Toyota has made a few small changes ( push button start, back light dash, led lights , etc)

i just feel like when I’m going to drop like 60Gs or more, I want more than reliability. Like some storage for starters, I’m done with this level of storage and utility at this price point, it’s time to up the game of utility Toyota

i’m liking what I see a lot! But the comment someone made about the difficulty in an aftermarket front bumper is an excellent point. When the 5th gen 4Runner came out, it took me a long time before I came around to liking the front end. Now I absolutely love it, so I’m sure I’ll love this one too. I have to because I’m dying for a new one and not buying a different brand.

Maybe a solar panel roof charging the EV battery so you can run it forever without having to stop to charge.

Some of y'all don't know what you want because you're American and most Americans are programmed to be told what they want and need by advertisements. On the other hand, most of you are a little more analytical than the average American truck buyer because you value what the Tundra offers in reliability and resale value. And that's where some of you start contradicting yourselves. You want a product that has cutting edge tech and reliability/resale value. Those two things rarely exist with any product. So be happy that Toyota is taking their sweet time on this. That's what makes a reliable and valuable product. Personally I don't want to see a Tundra in every driveway like F150s because I like having something a little different and also timeless, and you don't get timeless unless the design is around for a while. Look at the 70 series Land Cruiser. That thing has been around since 1984 and is one of the best selling Toyota products in the World. Yet it's not even offered in the US. Wonder why? Because Americans are programmed to always need something that's a brand new design. I hope they never release a "Fourth Gen" or if they do I hope the differences are as minimal as they were when the 2014 came out.

Looks like it to me. Also wonder what they are covering up in the bed. Composite bed like the Tacoma or do they normally cover the bed like that?

I would have 10 of these by now but not offered here. Thanks for reminding me how sad the offerings in America are when the rest of the world gets the best.

Glad someone gets it. I hope Toyota gets it right, because in another 12 or so years I’ll need a new full size with an internal combustion engine to use and abuse. I sure would like it to be as reliable and solid as the vehicle that I abuse today.

It's not offered here (in Canada) or the US because of emissions and crash safety nannies. I would kill for some of the products outside of North America. The 'utes' they sell in Australia are drool worthy. And as basic as a 1st gen land rover but without all the rust and breakdowns.
