Dealer wanted $1,278.50 to replace an auto folding mirror! Said it was all one unit and it has BSM and turn signal integrated thus the high price. Both those systems still work it just doesn’t fold in when the button is pressed. Anyone have any suggestions? I’m thinking motor issue or gear is bent. They can stay broken for $1300. Haha would be nice to have them fold in auto when truck is turned off.

Do you hear the motor going or not at all?

I hear it going. It “clunks” as it tries to fold in.

Someone might have kicked the mirror out of its place. That happened to me before. Leave the button to open so it starts with the mirrors out. Manually close the mirror that isn’t working properly then press the button so it closes the mirrors and it should kick into place. That worked for me.

I think it might be the gear. Sounds like it’s grinding. Tried to toggle the button. Now the passenger side will not fold in. Might have to try and take apart or find a used mirror. Or trade it for a NEW one!!!!

Contact @Roman here, I've seen these mirrors for about $600 each. I know because I was trying to find them for my Limited and I ended up buying a used set on Craigs List. Sounds like you only need one mirror and they are easy enough to replace yourself. You do need to remove the door panel, but that's just a couple of screws and the mirror is held on with three 10mm nuts.

Well I finally did this mod. I have a 2018 SR5 w/o memory. It went pretty good, all the wire locations were as everybody said but some of my colors were different. I ran the passenger wire above the plate under the glovebox without dropping anything else and ran it between the HVAC box and the firewall and then over the steering column. Everything zip tied out of the way.
I got the folding mirrors off FB marketplace for $50 but they ended up being gouged up. I found out I could separate the housings from the folding arm assy by removing the 4 screws that hold the mirror adjustment plate and then the 2 screws that hold the arm to the housing then install my old, nice housings (see pictures). Now I've just got to make holes in the housings for the puddle lights (another day). Good news, these housings CAN be swapped.

I always forget to hit the damn button when taking off from being parked. I go to look in my mirror and am like SHIT!

This is great news, but I'm curious as to whether or not you were able to separate the arm from the mounting plate. I grabbed a set of 2012 mirrors to put on my 2018 Limited and they're OK, but they're missing the vortex generator on the mounting plate and the passenger side stop seems t be broken. The passenger mirror doesn't stop until it hits the window. I'd love it if I could get the actuator into the original arms.

I don’t think you can put the actuator in the arm that wasn’t made for it, they are made different in that area. What are you calling a vortex generator?

Bummer. At least maybe I can take it apart enough to see if I can repair the stop.

The vortex generator is that ridge on the outside of the mounting plate. The 3rd gens have 1 on the mirror and two on each taillight. Supposedly they help with aerodynamics and maybe gain a microscopic amount of mpg.

Were you able to figure this out? I bought 2013 Limited mirrors for my 2017 SR5 and wanted to do the same thing. I sgill need to wire mine up though.

I don’t think it’s possible to separate the arm from the mounting plate easily. That is a very stiff spring in there.

The 2013 mirrors should work just fine. I only asked about swapping the arms because my passenger mirror isn't perfect - the stop is broken and the mirror doesn't stop until it touches the window. Those 2013 mirrors should bolt right up and work fine once you get them wired, as long as nothing is broken inside them.

Thanks man! Yeah, I took a look at mine too and it would take a lot of work to swap them out. I'm going to see if I can find some vortex generators to add on to the 2013 mirrors, lol.

    Hi bobeast

Thanks for this. I'm hoping to use it as I am Replacing my manual mirrors on a 2017 limited with motorized ones.

Does this mod also work to open the mirrors automatically when ACC is turned on or just to close them when ACC power is turned off?

Also, can you override the functionality by pressing the button. E.g. close the mirrors when automatically opened or will that mess with the motor next time it's triggered because it "thinks" it's in the open position?

Lastlt, for those electronicly challenged can you recommend a DPDT relay?

I would be interested to know if anyone has found a solution to Memory auto fold mirrors (fold upon exit, open upon start). Thx in advance.

I loved the idea till I saw the price... I will just let people hit the mirror. Its way more fun to sit in the truck and wait in the parking lot and watch people shin check my 3 way tow hitch with a hook on it! I had a guy 1 day hit his shin, get mad, and turn around and kick the hitch and walk off limping :)

Has any tried this with the aftermarket Boost folding mirrors? The truck and mirrors don't have memory. It seems like it would work.

Check the build link in my signature.
    Yes, in a way.
Hit up the first post in my build thread (in my signature or the Lunar Rock Tundra in the upper right corner of the web page) and then look through the list of mods - it is hyperlinked in there.
