Hey guys, trying to swap shackles today and they all came out easy… Except for the last one. I actually had to cut my old shackle in half so that I could get the top out which was real easy. Now the bottom portion with the bolt is still in my leafspring and the bold is seized to the sleeve. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Kind of stuck right now!

I don't understand why cutting the shackle in half was helpful, but what have you tried on that bolt? PBBlaster (penetrating oil (not WD-40)), BFH, Blow Torch, Breaker bar(s)? Did the NUT turn off and the bolt is just seized in the bushing sleeve?

I thought that if I could twist it I could break it loose but no such luck. I’m gonna try the PB blaster.

That PB blaster is great, but can take time to work its way in/up/through. I usually hit stuff with PBB daily starting a few days before a project. In the past i have found myself in the exact situation you are in now. Not sure it would have helped in this case.

    My escalation Procedure:
PBBlaster before project regardless of how it "should" go
    Breaker bar
    Dead-Blow Hammer
    Longer Breaker Bar
Heat (blowtorch) (utilzing it to get key parts to expand / contract / might just give it the space it needs to turn)
Drill it out, cut it off, or Plasma cutter if available

(if using a Big_F_Hammer try not to hammer the threads on any bolts you actually need to be able to turn out...either put a new nut on the end and knock the crap out of it, or hit the head).

I am not the most qualified, but i owned a jeep for 10 years that was in Upstate NY, so rust and some form of seized component was par for the course.

Goodluck! end of the day be patient, smarter than the bolt, and more stubborn than the bolt, and you will be victorious!

Well, what a cool day. New problem, nobody around here sales bolts long enough to replace them. Anybody know what size I need?

Here's the parts list for the Maxtrac shackles I used that came with new hardware:
    upload_2021-2-23_16-53-32.jpg

I have my oem bolts and shackles, so if you really can't find bolts I can ship them to you, but I think you're probably under a bit of a time crunch.

EDIT: I just remembered the OEM bolts are pressed in to the shackles, so I won't be of any help. But those M14-2.0X110MM should be the size you need.

That’s perfect. Thank you very much I just found some 130s. And pray and they’ll be just long enough for the top. If not I guess I’ll have to order them online. This form and its members are truly Lifesavers. Thanks guys!

Well holy cow! It’s out, bushing and all.
I have a replacement OEM bushing on its way. Any advice on putting it in before I start??

Put the truck on jack stands in the rear of the frame, driver and passenger side. Take a jack at the pumpkin and use that to put the springs where you want. You can also do this to relieve the tension when you are removing old ones.

Well just called coachbuilder, those guys are awesome. I have new poly bushes on the way. He said that the passenger side to come out a whole lot easier and the new ones should go in without any trouble. Looking forward to having this job done!

Was gonna suggest going with those bushings over OEM. Glad you gave them a call
