I have a 2011 CM 5.7 (no FFV) Rock Warrior. Is the tailgate pre wired for a power tailgate lock? There is a harness entering the tailgate close to the middle on the hinge side, but the only thing in the my tailgate that requires power is the backup camera. I'm hoping that the wiring is there so that I can just install the Toyota lock so I don't have to deal with the Pop-n-Lock. Anyone know?

Well, since it does not appear that anyone knows, can anyone tell me if this was at least an option on the 2011 model year? I cannot find a definitive answer. If yes, then it would make sense that the wiring would be present in the harness together with the camera wiring.

No tundra is prewired for a tailgate lock, it’s a dealer add-on at best. You have to “steal” power from under the driver side kick panel and run it to your tailgate to power the pop-n-lock.

On second thought, I would rather not have it. If a thief would be able to hit my unlock button in the cab then he would have full access to the bed (not that any type of cover would really stop him).

I do have a bed cover and so I added one to my 18. Easy install and I could not imagine going without.

    1 or 2... I lost count
I have an undercover classic tonneau cover and if it is closed I can't open the tailgate even when it is unlocked since it wraps over the top of all the edges. If somebody wants in they will still get in the bed though so there is only so much you can do. https://undercoverinfo.com/undercover-classic/2012/toyota/tundra

I have a soft tonneau cover, and I definitely leave my tailgate unlocked. My theory is that I don't leave valuables in there anyway, and I'd rather a curious passer-by is able to open the tailgate to see that, rather than slashing my tonneau cover to take a look inside.

I also have a soft one, but have a hard tri-fold on order.

Have you never heard of a Diamondback Cover? I'm confident the things I have in my bed are more secure than what I have in my cab with it.

Yes, I've done my research and those are a little too rich for my blood, and unless I'm mistaken, the tailgate could still be opened with the cover locked. I have a Rugged Liner on the way.

Sure the tailgate can be opened - that's why I lock my tailgate.

My point exactly. If someone were to push the unlock button in the cab (coat hanger, breaking a window, etc.) with a power tail tailgate lock they will have access to everything in the bed. I would rather lock it manually.

If you have any bed cover other than a Diamondback - they can just pop themselves right into your bed regardless.
