@TundraTex's FRAC harness (Front/Rear Anytime Camera) Install/Review

@TundraTex Yes it goes black, also checked the switch and the connections look fine. The only thing I haven't done is use a volt meter, the wiring under the hood is bundled up pretty good. I also used shrink wrap on most the connections.

 

Ok. If the screen goes black, that indicates that the FRAC circuit has power and is properly switching to the front cam video line, but since there is no video to display - the screen is black.

This means the cam is not providing video. This can be caused either by a bad camera, or no power or ground to the camera or by a disconnected or broken video line.

Since you replaced the camera, odds are it’s ok. I suspect the cables between the camera and the FRAC or the actual RCA plug from the front cam to the FRAC circuit being loose or broken. Did you replace them when you changed out the camera? If not, they could be the problem.

I’ve seen the small power/video connector in the cam harness go bad and I’ve seen the metallic center conductor of the Front Cam RCA actually break and get stuck the FRAC RCA without making contact.

So focus your troubleshooting on the front cam and it’s wiring.

Mine did the same thing when I installed it. I unhooked all the connections behind radio, hooked everything back up and it’s been working great ever since.

Yes. The FRAC Harness ties into the wiring for the factory tailgate camera. You just need to buy a front cam.
