I am looking for advice/opinions/experience regarding a shop lift. I'm currently leaning toward a Weaver, as the Rotary is quite expensive. But I'm open to other suggestions.

Ceiling height is greater than 13'. Looking at overhead, 2-post.

    Thanks.

Rotary is professional level equipment, hence the price. I think Bendpak has a hobbyist level. You might also look at Greg Smith Equipment. I’ve had a mid rise lift from them for about a decade and it has been solid. It had one spring on a check valve get weak and they helped me trouble shoot it and sent a replacement part with no hassle. Garage Journal also has a ton of info in the subject.

If installing in a residential garage, keep in mind that two post lifts require a thicker foundation than any standard home slab. Typically, you have to design the structure foundation to the lift requirements. Most manufacturers provide information on foundation requirements/specifications.

Because of the foundation requirements, a two post lift was out of consideration for my application. I bought a "previously-owned" four post Atlas 408-SL lift originally from Greg Smith Equipment. My lift also included the center sliding hydraulic jack, and a separate heavy-duty jack tray, for lifting the vehicle on the runways for wheel, brake, and suspension work.

I found that the quality of four-post lifts varied widely from professional-level quality like 408-SL to less well-known offerings that appear pretty sketchy in both design and fabrication. Atlas is made in China, but was probably a thousand cheaper than an equivalent Bendpak (another excellent professional-quality lift).

We installed a four post Bendpak at work two years ago. No problem with it. They are professional grade and I believe made in the USA.

A long time ago I worked at Sears auto center and one of the mechanics dropped a truck off the two post lift and it bent the studs holding the posts. They had to X-ray the concrete to see if they could re bolt a new lift or cut out the slab - as @JohnLakeman said - two post lifts need the correct footing.

Much appreciated advice. I have an engineered slab with 18"x18" pads at post locations with a 5" slab.

Head on over to the General Discussion forum at garagejournal.com and spend the next 10 hours reading post about lifts. When information overload sets in and you need a break, check the Gallery out.....some incredible garage builds. I got a ton of great ideas and info over there for my detached garage build (i.e., design/layout, build materials, floor coatings, electrical, lighting, etc.).

Rotary are the Cadillac or Mercedes of lifts. Hence the high prices.

I have a bendpak lift in my garage that has served me well for over 28 years. I have not had any seal issues on the ram, it just works.

I don't have any background with Weaver.

Thanks to all for their advice. I have pulled the trigger on the Weaver® W-Pro10 Blue Certified Overhead 2 Post Lift. Also got some accessories: Weaver® W-3320 3/4 Ton Jack Stand for Auto Lifts, Weaver® W-8G 8-Gallon Oil Drain, and Weaver® W-P201730-4 Screw Pad Adapters (Set of 4). Total cost was 3,500. It'll be a bit before this is installed, but I'll keep this up to date for anyone interested.
