I’m currently trying to find a transmission that is manual and 4x4 that will fit the 05/06 tundra 4.0 v6. However it appears they did not make a manual 4x4 trans for 05/06 Tundra 4.0 v6.

I’m inquiring to see if there is any knowledge out there of a 2gen Tacoma 4.0 v6 with manual transmission 4x4 that will potentially fit on a 2006 tundra standard cab 4.0v6 auto.

The goal is to convert this 2006 standard cab long bed 4.0 v6 auto transmission to a manual 4x4 it seems possible if there’s a transmission out there.

This is my first ever post on here I appreciate any and all responses!

    Thanks

A Tacoma 6 speed with a fj t-case or Tacoma t-case would work.

If your going through all that work I’d do the FJ case. It’s AWD and high low.

They did. Abs they also did indeed offer the 4.0 V6 manual with 4x4. But stupid rare. The transmission and transfercase were plucked out of the tacoma

Sick thanks very much for the help @empty_lord i found a company ROCK SOLID TOYS that looks like they do the FJ transfer case conversion. NOMANY GREAT REVIEWS THOUGH ALOT OF PEOPLE PAYING AND NOT GETTING PARTS. Looks like if that truck in your photo is yours you may have already gone through this? Any tips? Or do you know any one else doing these conversions?

Not gonna lie ive been searching for someone who has already done this to pick their brain about the conversion. The truck in your picture is the end goal....Tundras looking real clean. After i hopefully get this transmission and transfer case figured out gonna do a rear and front DIY bumper set from coastal offroad. The weld together bumpers are almost half the price of Brute Forces.

We have a member here that converted his V8 to manual transmission. He doesn't post often. Here are some links.

I have not done the conversion for a manual. My trucks got the 4.7.But one day I may do the swap with a r series trans.

be warned you will have. A check engine light and all that good stuff if you do a manual swap without a manual ECU and harness.

@empty_lord I hear ya I am gonna wait a while just mapping out the build and pricing everything out to make sure its possible physically and financially. You know what its crazy they didnt have a higher output difference between the 4.0 (240-245HP) and 4.7 (280-285HP) id still rather have the v8 if i hadnt already bought the 4.0. Not as crazy as not having a manual 4x4 option for a smaller truck like this.

That being said you are 100 percent correct i have been reading up on a lot of the ins and outs, clutch pedal, slave cylinder, throwout bearing, clutch, ecu, wiring, and etc.

Definitely gonna be alot of work but for me this is something im looking to get done over the next 2-3 years. The end goal is a clean updated 1st gen tundra overlander. Were over here on the east coast in MD
and we love camping and adventuring. My DRZ400s can take me alot of places the truck cant but still cant haul shit lol.

Honestly your best bet is an engine harness and ECU from a manual Tacoma and then re-pin the bodyside harness to work with the tundra dash

You can in effect run the TRD supercharger later on too and run the Tacoma/fj specific tune to properly run the supercharger.

We had one member do the Manual Conversion on his DC. He also did a Solid Axle Front. He worked on limousine conversions as his main gig. Can’t remember his handle as he hasn’t been on here in over a year. He did some unique stuff not many here could do due to his Cross Over Skills.

@empty_lord You are right I couldn't agree with you more. That's the way. Especially since I'm very interested in pruners and have a desire to enter that arena at some point with this truck as well. TRD supercharger would be a necessary upgrade to get that 4.0 really moving. You got some sick ideas! thank you i really appreciate all of the feedback and responses once I get the bread together to start chipping away at this idea I have in my head I will definitely be posting some pics and potentially some build videos to YouTube.

Should be fairly simple to do it too. You’ll need to re pin the 2 body side connectors for the ecu more than likely, but everything should work like factory past that. You’d want a ecu from before the tacomas got secondary air injection. Best to honestly get the same year as your tundra
