No, just decided to take the dogs for a walk along the beach. We had some tacos at the Beach House after, a bit expensive but they are so good. Had a beer while I was there too. We live in Moorpark so its a short drive away.

Same spot different time of year. Second picture was taken by that left birch tree on the right side in the water in the first picture.

For you rock hounders on here. I took a drive to Paisley, OR (about 150 miles SE of Bend) on Wednesday to check on last year's fire damage along the Chewaucan River. Tough to see, but the BLM and local ranchers have been busy shoring up the banks and replanting trees. While talking with THE local store owner in Paisley, he told me about the Paisley Caves. Turns out this was a rich archaeological find in the late 1930's and helped better to understand the exploration and settling of the PNW. Bones of camels and horses were found dating back over 8000 years, with cuts and scrapings indicating they had been killed and eaten by humans. Most importantly, this site found fossilized human feces dating to ~14,000 years ago. When Mt. Mazama erupted 7700 years ago, the ash coated and protected these artifacts. Recent DNA analysis indicates that humans were in these caves more than 1000 years prior to the Clovis people of New Mexico (previously thought to the first inhabitants of North America). Hard to believe, but this desert was a wetlands 14,000 years ago. The DNA found most consistent with East Asian ancestry. Up until 30 years ago, it was thought that the Clovis people of New Mexico were settlers making their way northward along the land from South America. Researchers now think the area was discovered by water and explorers would take shelter in the caves as they made their way inland from the coast. http://nativeamericannetroots.net/diary/1827

Unmarked but accessible by dirt road. There are a series of 7 caves along the hillside.

Lots of predator birds bringing kill here. Hunters think alike no matter the species. Bones, feathers, fur, teeth scattered.

Evergreen, CO my backyard, just took this a few minutes ago. That round rock at the top of the formation is about 10-feet around for perspective and the formation is about 80-90 feet tall.

Very true! We have several in the area. Since we purchased our land last spring, we have spotted 5 different ones on camera. Its pretty cool to see. In Wisconsin it is illegal to hunt albino deer. Its like they know that too. I have walked to within 10 feet of the one in the picture. He is very impressive up close. The picture really doesn't do him justice in his size.

I used to hunt up in the Nicolet NF near Crivitz with my uncles back in the late '90's while I was going to school at MSOE (my Dad's family is from Green Bay, so I've got lots of family in northern WI). Never saw an albino up there. Probably a good thing they don't let people bag the albino's or it would be a shit-show. But also interesting how that will affect the lineage as the protected ones continue to breed.

There has been some debate as to whether or not the dude in the picture is a piebald. Piebald deer are fair game here in Wisconsin. They have to have brown in a place other than between the antlers or the tarsal glands. The minimal brown on his neck has left it up for debate. I have been meaning to show a DNR warden the pic for final confirmation. Its not a kill I'd be willing to take without that approval lol. Also, his black nose and eyes says to me that he is a piebald but like I said, the fines aren't worth it and he's so damn tame by now it really wouldn't be hard to get within bow range. He's kind of a neighborhood pet. During bow season he just walks on by. Its pretty cool.

Attended 2 different weddings this past weekend. One on the road to Mt Lemmon and another the next day in downtown Tucson.

Ahh... I miss Tucson. I went to grad school there in the mid-80's (Go Cats) and have great memories. My brother still lives there and I try to visit as often as I can. Sabino Canyon, Saguaro Monument East, Gates Pass at sunset, and the smell of the desert after rain.
